A note from the:
Dear Global Philadelphia Friends:
June is a hot month in more ways than one. Two big events will be hitting Philadelphia. One is “World Forum FDI,” a Foreign Direct Investment conference that will be hosted in Philadelphia from June 16-18, bringing over 300 global participants from multinational corporations, as well as thought leaders and major speakers. The association is delighted to be a local media partner for this event.
June also sees the start of the World Cup from Brazil, with matches taking place until mid-July. GPA will be co-hosting a kickoff event World Party at The Piazza at Schmidts (1050 N. Hancock St.) on June 14th. Throughout the month-long proceedings, we intend to be front and center with you all as this definitive global event unfolds. Watch globalphiladelphia.org to keep up with the latest updates and all the excitement.
All of this takes place among a backdrop of events we are calling “Global Gateways,” in which GPA is a partner with its members. In May we were thrilled to co-host the Consular Corps of Philadelphia’s “How to Become an Honorary Consul,” an event designed to increase the current consular representation from 35. Over 70 people took part in this important discourse with vital representation from Africa and South America. It will be repeated in the fall.
Thanks to a wonderful cohort of interns and co-ops, our social media messaging is in full swing. I urge you to follow us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to learn daily about the many global activities going on in Philadelphia.
Let us know what we can do for you as we continue to showcase Philadelphia as the international city that it is.
With Best Wishes,

Global Philadelphia Association seeks to promote international consciousness by informing Philadelphian's about developing regions and new global opportunities. Did you know Africa is the world's second-largest and second most populous continent? Africa is also the leading continent for the future's natural resources, businesses and trade.
At the Africa Global Business Forum, titled Breaking Barriers and Connecting Business, Mohamed Alabbar, chairman of Emaar Properties PJSC from the UAE discussed various opportunities in Africa as the future of the world’s source of businesses and natural resources. Many see Africa as a forgotten continent; however, Africa has a myriad of resources to offer to the world.
The economic activities in the world are slowing down due to the decrease of natural resources thus affecting income and value of life. However, this will change in some years and it will be due to Africa. The UAE is heavily invested in Africa, in major countries like Nigeria, Angola, Zimbabwe and 50 other countries for trade, businesses, and overall development. Emirates Airlines encourages businesses from the Middle East to travel to places in Africa. The conversation between Mohamed Alabbar and the moderator, John Defterios, puts Africa on the spotlight for potential markets, economic growth, and exploration.
Our members are in tune with the developments of Africa on multiple fronts, explore their efforts and see what's on the horizon for PHL and Africa:
