GP13 in the News

In addition to the invaluable efforts of Global Philadelphia Association Members in promoting the exposition, GPA's staff has had the chance to spread the word, as well.

U.S. Squash Open at Drexel University



Wednesday, October 9, 2013 - Friday, October 18, 2013 

The world’s most elite players will return to Philadelphia in 2013 to compete in one of the top international displays of professional squash talent, the U.S. Open Squash Championships.

This premier event forms part of the World Series tour for both the Professional Squash Association and Women’s Squash Association. The 2013 Delaware Investments U.S. Open Squash Championships will be heldfrom October 9-18 and once again hosted at Drexel University.

General admission ranges from $20 - $35.

Building Global Competence through Collaborative Strategies in International Education



Thursday, October 10, 2013 - 1:00pm - Saturday, October 12, 2013 - 12:00pm

The Pennsylvania Council for International Education (PaCIE) will hold its 2013 conference, Building Global Competence through CollaborativeStrategies in International Education, on October 10-12 at the Sheraton University City Hotel.

• Attend Sessions on collaborations within international education or across sectors; creating connections through the use of technology; working together to overcome challenges in international education; and educating the educators on global issues. Sessions will showcase work and best practices within K-12 and higher education, as well as collaborations with government agencies, community organizations and the business community.

• Network with your colleagues from around the state.

• Learn more about PaCIE, its goals and initiatives – including ways to get involved.

PaCIE is a network of professionals interested in advancing international education in Pennsylvania. The organization provides a forum for educators, both K-12 and at the higher education level, to share best practices,formulate advocacy goals and construct a dialogue with government agencies and actors, as well as business and non-profit organizations. The primary objective for PaCIE membership is to provide a vehicle for discussion and development of practices that will aid us in preparing Pennsylvania’s youth for the global creative economy.



Ireland Vs. Germany World Cup Qualifying Game


Friday, October 11, 2013 

Cheer loudly for your favorite team and have some rollicking good fun to warm up for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. 

This event is co-hosted with the Irish American Chamber of Commerce, German Society of Pennsylvania, Irish Immigration Center, and Irish Network Philadelphia.

Lunch: $35, and $10 for law students. Cash bar.

Open to Public & Members and Young Professionals.
 


Week of Italian Language by Consulate General of Italy


Friday, October 18, 2013 - Monday, October 28, 2013 

This week of events is part of the ongoing celebration of 2013 as the year of Italian culture. Enjoy days of cultural events and academic events, during which Italiano is the star.

This event is co-hosted by University of Pennsylvania Center for Italian Studies and Italian American Society of Philadelphia.

Free - Open to Students, Professor and People interested in the research on cancer that Prof. Giordano, an Italian-American scientist, is leading at Temple University.
 


 

Open House at Chamounix Mansion



Wednesday, October 23, 2013 - 5:00pm - 8:30pm

Location: Heritage Chamounix Mansion, West Fairmount Park, 3250 Chamounix Drive, Philadelphia, PA 19131

Two Hundred years ago Chamounix Mansion was the summer retreat of the Plumstead family; 100 years ago the Mansion served as the clubhouse for the Quaker City Motor Club which promoted automobile racing along the adjacent Chamounix Speedway.

In 1964, Chamounix became the first metropolitan youth hostel in America. Today, the restored Chamounix and Carriage House continue to serve as an International Hostel and Meeting Center. Come share the welcome of Chamounix, an extraordinary Fairmount Park destination.

2013 Greater Philadelphia Leadership Exchange: "Innovation and Collaboration Around Shared Agendas"

The Economy League of Philadelphia hosts 1 and 1/2 days of learning and networking with a cohort of emerging and established leaders from diverse sectors, industries, and counties. The first day features a welcome luncheon followed by Regional Explorations -- site visits to hubs of creative partnerships across the Delaware Valley. Return to Philadelphia for informal dinners at a selection of terrific Center City restaurants (optional). The program continues the second day with a mix of engaging speakers and panels plus interactive discussions. Registration is closed.

Join the dialogue as Dr. Gleick presents his views on Global Water Challenges, Issues and Solutions.

Treasure Hunt!

The GlobalPhillyâ„¢ 2013 Treasure Hunt exhibits how Philadelphia is a center of culture that strives to promote global knowledge.

Partake in the Treasure Hunt, and you could be eligible to win one of three fabulous prizes, graciously furnished by the Philadelphia Convention & Visitors Bureau.

People who complete the Treasure Hunt will be eligible to attend the GlobalPhillyâ„¢ 2013 Closing Reception on November 4th!

We have selected locations unique to the city of Philadelphia, showcasing its individuality, and how Philadelphia has played and will continue to play a crucial role in the development of not only a global region, but a global United States of America.

Clues are updated frequently to unveil the unique, valuable, and historic treasures of the global city of Philadelphia!
