Rā Waiata - One of Four A+W•NZ Events at AAW 2016

A+W•NZ are honoured to be hosted by Ngāti Whātua at Ōrākei Marae for a very special dawn karakia. Greet the sun as it comes up over the Waitematā, while enjoying a morning of ako (learning) and korero (talking), followed by kai (breakfast), at one of Tāmaki Makaurau's most spectacular and historically rich sites. In the spirit of manaakitanga (hospitality), gain a greater understanding of tikanga (protocol) in relation to pōwhiri (welcoming) and share the joy of learning and singing waiata (songs). Yes, you will need to get up (very) early, but learning some of the history of the city we live in is fundamental for architects, and it will definitely be worth it!
When:  Saturday 24 September 2016, 5:30 - 8:30am
Where: Ōrākei Marae
             59B Kitemoana Street, Auckland 1071

Cost:    $50 General
             $25 Students

Bring walking shoes / gumboots for the Dawn Karakia and guided walk.

Please email architecturewomen@gmail.com with any dietary requirements or queries.
Book via Eventbrite - tickets limited to 50, so be quick.

Architecture Week 2016: 19 - 25 September

Architecture Week 2016 is going to be very busy - and now includes events in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch. We will give a quick overview here of all the A+W•NZ events contributing to this fast and fabulous September week, with more details on each specific event in next week's newsletter;

Auckland:
  • Local Women Speak, Saturday 24 September, 2-7pm. Te Iringa Room, AUT
  • Rā Waiata, Saturday 24 September, 5:30-8:30am. Ōrākei Marae
  • The Common: Housing Our Communities, Thursday 22 September, 6-8pm. Studio One Toi Tū.
  • A+W•NZ Timeline @ The Silos (re-visited), 19-25 Sept, open all day. Wynyard Quarter.

Wellington:
  • A+W•NZ Express Series, Tuesday 20 September, 12:30-1:30pm. City Gallery.

Christchurch:
  • A+W•NZ and Home Magazine Housing Panel, Tuesday 20 September, 6pm. WaM Christchurch studio foyer.

As you can see,  there is so much on for A+W•NZ during AW 2016, we need to devote an entire newsletter (or two) to the separate events. Watch for next week's long issue!
A big thank-you to our regular sponsors for Architecture Week: Resene, NZIA, AUT and Architectus.

The Third Toast!

This is the Third and final Toast - to be held on Tuesday 13 September, 7:45-9am, featuring guest Fiona Christeller.
Fiona has been a Principal of FCA Architects for over 30 years, until recently working with fellow Principal Derek Harris. Fiona is also a jeweller, and returning to her sole practice means she can create space for both aspects of her design life.

The venue for Toast is Field & Green, 262 Wakefield St, Wellington, opened since 2015 serving European Soul Food.

By now you will know to be in quick for the tickets - they are limited to 40, and the first Toast event sold out, so did the second Toast event, so book via eventbrite now to avoid disappointment.

5 CPD points per Breakfast.

Thank you to Warren and Mahoney and Jasmax for their support in all three TOAST events.
