Associate Professor Dr Sarah Treadwell Announces Retirement

A+W-NZ wants to extend our warmest wishes and a BIG thank you to our friend, mentor and Mana Taumata, Dr Sarah Treadwell, who is retiring from academic life on 10 March 2017. In true form, Sarah will continue with her many projects, focusing on her art production and wider family, as well as maintaining links with The University of Auckland through some PhD supervision. We wish Sarah all the best for her future projects and look forward to seeing the results of her energies, set in a new direction.

As well as her excellent academic output and beautiful drawings and lithographs over the course of her career, Sarah has been the steady hand for so many architecture students at The University of Auckland's SoAP. How do we even start - with words - to describe the effect Sarah has had on so many generations of architects - her intellect, clarity, patience, humility, open-mindedness and focus have guided so many through their years of study and establishing their own architectural identity. But most of all, we acknowledge her kindness and wisdom, attributes often suppressed in fast-moving, competitive and stressful architectural environments - but steadfastly maintained with strength by Sarah. Thank you for everything, Sarah.

A+W-NZ will celebrate Sarah's wonderful career and influence at the upcoming A+W-NZ Awards, to be held on 26 August 2017, in Wellington.

A stunning academic career, thank you for everything.

A+W-NZ / SGA Building Workshop Re-Scheduled

The A+W-NZ / SGA Kaikoura Trust Building Workshop has been re-scheduled from April/May to August/September 2017. There has been a delay in obtaining the Building Consent for various reasons, so the construction period will now be held in August/September 2017.

Apologies to those who were keen to start, however this timing may be more suitable for others, especially where managing time away from the office requires finely-tuned planning. Confirmed places are filling up, so be in touch if you are curious and keen. If you are not already on our email list for this workshop, just contact us at architecturewomen@gmail.com and we can update you. More information, including time and cost commitments, can be found on the website 'Events' page

Acknowledgement of Kawenata Signing 9/2/17

A+W-NZ would like to congratulate both Nga Aho and the NZIA for the Kawenata signing on 9 February 2017, in a powhiri ceremony before the start of the NZIA In:Situ Conference 2017. We believe this is an important and long-overdue occasion, and one to be celebrated. Well done to all involved, there has been a lot of hard work and negotiation to get to this agreement. The process has been led by Kaumātua, Ngā Aho, Haare Williams, and includes NZIA CEO Teena Hale Pennington and President Christina van Bohemen, continuing the work initiated by Past-President Pip Cheshire.
In honouring this agreement, the NZIA has created a new position on its Board for Nga Aho to literally sit at the table. The first Board member representing Nga Aho is A+W-NZ's Secretary, Elisapeta Heta.
