Church of the Nativity and Holy Comforter

2020 is here!
We hope your 2020 is off to a beautiful start, and that you are energized for all of the new things that a new year brings.
While Pastor Stewart Lucas is on sabbatical, we will be sure to get you the e-news letter weekly, but it may not be as polished as you have become accustomed to.

Signed,
Your faithful and determined servants (who will conquer digital technology)

Forums in January

January 12 “Reinhold Niebuhr – An American Conscience”

Pastor Don will show a DVD telling the story of one of the most important American thinkers and theologians: Reinhold Niebuhr. Perhaps Niebuhr’s greatest fame came from people attributing the “Serenity Prayer” to him, but his life-story shows a man of serenity speaking truth to power.

January 19 “Theology of Breath”

Jody Johnson will present ideas from her backgrounds of science and faith, giving insights into the significance of each breath we take, and insights on how the Bible describes our breath and the breath of God.

January 26 “Jesus Was a Buddhist Monk”

This morning Lee Taylor will show a video, prepared for the BBC, that points to the relationships between the presence and teachings of Jesus with aspects of Buddhism. Come expecting some interesting surprises.

Envelopes Are Here…

Your pledge envelopes are waiting for you in the back of the sanctuary, all alphabetized and easy to find. Whew.

CARES Food Pantry

Amanda Cunningham reported this week that our friends at CARES are very, very grateful for all of the food and other important things that our congregation donated in 2019. We have donated over 300 bags groceries in this last calendar year. It’s beautiful, it’s important, and it really does make a difference in the world around us. Thank you all!

SHARE BABY - Coming Down the Home Stretch

We’ve been collecting all kinds of things that have to do with baby hygiene and soon we’ll be boxing them up and delivering them to SHARE BABY. Let’s take one more week of radical hospitality and help the kids around us. Bring diapers, pull ups, and wipes to church this Sunday and do something remarkable for moms in need. Thank you all so much!

We are accepting donations now through January 19th. Here is a list of items, keeping in mind that packs of diapers can be new or opened:

Diapers (sizes 1-6)

Pull-ups (Sizes 2T-3T, 3T-4T, 4T-5T)

Wipes

Diaper Cream/ointment

Baby Oil

Baby Lotion
Baby Wash

Baby Shampoo
Baby Powder

If you have any questions about the ShareBaby Diaper Drive, please contact Amanda Eversley at aeversley20@gmail.com

If you are interested in volunteering, a small group from Sunday School will be going to the ShareBaby warehouse on Wednesday January 29th from 7:00pm to 9:00pm.   You can sign up to volunteer on the ShareBaby website or through this link https://www.signupgenius.com/go/9040c49a9ab2babf94-public

Busy, Busy, Busy

There’s a lot going on this month at Church of the Nativity and Holy Comforter. Check the bulletin board in the hall for more information about Contra Dances, and Cedarcroft Assn.’s Family Movie Night, Three Ring Theater performances, yoga classes, and Gentle English Country Dance. Whoever said that things get quiet in the winter??

Sandwich Packing at Springwell

This coming Monday is the second Monday of the month, and we’ll be packing sandwiches at Springwell. We meet there at 5:15, and it’s so worth doing. Come join us and bring your sandwich making expertise!  Adults and children are welcome to attend.
