#GivingTuesday is a global generosity movement that unleashes the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and their world. #GivingTuesday was created in 2012 as a simple idea: a day that encourages people to do good. Over the past seven years, this idea has grown into a global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity. #GivingTuesday strives to build a world in which the catalytic power of generosity is at the heart of the society we build together, unlocking dignity, opportunity, and equity around the globe.

Turkey Tom's Thanksgiving Prayer
Thanks to Pastor Don
They want me to say this prayer
Thank you for the world so sweet
For the food we eat
For the birds that sing (ahem – like me)
Thank you, God, for everything
But I wrote my own prayer.
Thank you, God, for Mom and Dad
They’re the best I ever had.
Thank you for my little brother.
I wish that I could have another.
Thank you, Lord, for my big sister.
She left last week and I sure missed her.
Thanks for cousins, nephews, nieces
I just love them all to pieces.
Thank you for my family
They’re great at giving love to me
I need love now. I need it quick
Cause many folks are getting sick.
It’s all because of some new virus.
We need you Lord to come inspire us.
We really want to get together
We are, you know, birds of a feather.
But, lately we’ve been getting lonely
Wearing masks and meeting only
Just a very special few…
Thank you we can still meet you.
Come, Lord, Jesus. Be our guest
At this year’s slim Thanksgiving feast
Eating food that’s finger lickin’
Thank you when more folks eat chicken
Thank you for Thanksgiving Day
Giving thanks in every way.
Thanks for food and love and fun.
Thank you that my prayer is done.
This year our Christmas Pageant is open to EVERYONE!
The show we’re doing is called “Do Not Be Afraid,” and it’s a contemporary retelling of the Christmas story. And in this era of social distancing, we’ll be making it into a movie!
The details are these:
We’re looking for members of the congregation of all ages to participate. The current cast needs are:
- SPECIFICALLY MALE/MALE PRESENTING
- SPECIFICALLY FEMALE/FEMALE PRESENTING
i.Adult storyteller (should be at least old enough to be a parent)
- ANY GENDER
v.Magi (but they should be funny)
vi.Angel messenger to the Magi
i.Kids in bedroom
- KIDS (ANY GENDER)
As you can see, we have need of all types to participate. There are some scenes that take place indoors and some that are outside. For the indoor ones we’ll ask you to use your phones to film your scenes in order to maintain a safety bubble. You’ll be provided some directions on what to do and then upload your video to the Church’s Google Drive where it’ll be edited to fit into the movie. Should you find that it’s easier and less stressful for someone else to do the shooting, let me know and I’ll come masked up and we can work together.
For the outdoor scenes we’ll use various parts of the church’s property – the playground, the lawn, the porch, maybe even the parking lot. I will film those (masked, of course) and we’ll maintain safe distancing the whole time. The scenes are pretty short so there won’t be a huge time commitment. An hour or two, I think, for the most part.
If you want to participate but can’t bear the thought of being in front of the camera, there may be a few costume or prop-type things we need help gathering, for which I’d be grateful. I hope to start shooting right after Thanksgiving – there are 12 scenes altogether and they’re all pretty short. Outdoor scenes might be chilly but since it sort of takes place during the winter we can make things realistic.
Let me know if you would like to participate. I’d like to get the cast together by Monday so I can start sending scripts out and finalizing the schedule for taping. Feel free to shoot me an email at firstname.lastname@example.org if you have questions or interest. I’m looking forward to meeting everyone, learning with everyone, and celebrating with everyone.
