Stewart's Stewings

Well the hymns are chosen, the bulletins are printing, the sermons are still stewing, the poinsettias arrive tomorrow, and the presents for our Ascension Homes lunch guests are wrapped. All that's left to do is bring the kids to church on Sunday and we'll get them in a costume for the last minute Christmas Pageant in Hart Hall.

It is a beautiful time to be part of such an incredible community of faith. In the midst of the heartache, division, suffering and darkness of the world, God comes to be among us. This is the Good News we celebrate at Christmas. The challenge of course is to leave this comfy place and share that good news and the peaces that passes our understanding.

I hope you will join us for a great fourth Sunday of Advent. Bring a dish to share at the 9:15 am potluck brunch. Stay after the 10:30 am service to support our children. Then come back on Christmas Eve for the 5:00 pm service. Music starts a little after 4:30 pm. Or Christmas Day at 10:00 am if that fits your family's schedule better.

If you are traveling, know that we love you and wish you the best this holiday season. Oh, and the Diaper Drive has been extended to January 19! Look at the donations so far! Thank you!

Faithfully yours,

P.S. I'll have one more parting edition of Stewart's Stewings before I leave on Sabbatical.....

We are so grateful for all of you who have made pledges for our 2020 Operating Budget. So far those total $195,000! If you have not yet made a pledge, you can do so online.

If you would like to make an end of year gift, you can also do that online. You can even text the amount you would like to give to 410-213-3900. Thank you!

Pastor Don preaches on Home for Christmas on the Third Sunday of Advent.

Forum on Faith

Each Sunday we gather at 9:15 am in Hart Hall for coffee, snacks and conversation about our faith, the world, and how we can make a difference.
Dec 22 –Holiday Brunch with special activities provided by Sam Dowding
Dec 29 – No Forum. Come back for an interesting new season of classes in January!

January 5 “Hymns Back Story”
We start the new year learning some new things about some old friends: hymns, such as Amazing Grace, the Battle Hymn of the Republic, A Mighty Fortress, and more. Pastor Don leads us in this musical exploration, hoping that as you learn more about the hymns you can appreciate them all the more.

January 12 – “Reinhold Niebuhr – An American Conscience”
Today Pastor Don will show a DVD telling the story of one of the most important American thinkers and theologians: Reinhold Niebuhr. Perhaps Niebuhr’s greatest fame came from people (incorrectly) attributing the “Serenity Prayer” to him. But his life-story shows a man of serenity speaking truth to power.

January 19 – “Theology of Breath”
Jody Johnson will present ideas from her backgrounds of science and faith, giving insights into the significance of each breath we take, and insights on how the Bible describes our breath and the breath of God.

January 26 – “Jesus Was A Buddhist Monk”
This morning Lee Taylor will show a video, prepared for the BBC, that points to the relationships between the presence and teachings of Jesus with aspects of Buddhism. Come expecting some interesting surprises.

Chair Yoga

No Class on December 23 but will resume on December 30
This Chair Yoga class will help you build strength and endurance, increase flexibility, and improve your posture and balance. Special attention will be paid to bone health and preventing/reversing bone loss related to osteoporosis. It is designed for mid-life and older adults who may benefit from a slower pace and a recognition of age-related functional changes.

We will do seated chair poses and standing poses. Beginners are welcome and encouraged. Please wear comfortable clothing that you can easily move in and bring some water to stay hydrated. Suggested donation for the class is $5.00. Please come join us for Chair Yoga in the Church. People interested in signing up, or have any questions, please contact the teacher; Linda McGill at
