No Service Tonight
The weather forecast for this evening does not look dry. So we will not be gathering for outdoor worship this evening. We hope to see you for the Blessing of the Animals with Holy Communion outside under the cedar tree this Sunday, October 4th at 9:00 am. If you cannot join us, we'll still Zoom together for worship at 10:30 am. If you missed last Sunday's Service and my sermon entitled "Just Do the Next Right Thing", you can
watch it now.
Pastor Stewart

Donations Needed
Over one half of our neighbors are now not able to pay their bills. While some expenses are down for folks, others are up, and income is down. The CARES Food Pantry is in desperate need. In addition to the regular needs, they need: spaghetti sauce, peanut butter, cooking oil, coffee, and canned vegetables other than the usual corn and peas! Please bring your donation to the church any time and leave it at the door under the covered ramp entrance.

Prayer for our Country

Almighty God, to whom we must account for all our powers and privileges: Guide the people of the United States in the election of officials and representatives; that, by faithful administration and wise laws, the rights of all may be protected and our nation be enabled to fulfill your purposes. Amen.

New Book Group!

The Nativity and Holy Comforter Book Club has been renewed. We, the “Bookies”, will be reading our first book Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman. Our first discussion is slated for Saturday October 17, at 5 p.m. via zoom. All readers are welcome to join, or read at their own leisure.

Meet Eleanor Oliphant: she struggles with appropriate social skills and tends to say exactly what she’s thinking. Nothing is missing in her carefully timetabled life of avoiding unnecessary human contact, where weekends are punctuated by frozen pizza, vodka, and phone chats with Mummy.

But everything changes when Eleanor meets Raymond, the bumbling and deeply unhygienic IT guy from her office. When she and Raymond together save Sammy, an elderly gentleman who has fallen, the three rescue one another from the lives of isolation that they had been living. Ultimately, it is Raymond’s big heart that will help Eleanor find the way to repair her own profoundly damaged one. If she does, she'll learn that she, too, is capable of finding friendship—and even love—after all.

Smart, warm, uplifting, Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine is the story of an out-of-the-ordinary heroine whose deadpan weirdness and unconscious wit make for an irresistible journey as she realizes. . . the only way to survive is to open your heart

Hope to see and hear from you.  If you need any further information on the book club, please do not hesitate to get in touch with Margaret Dowding at
dowding.margaret@yahoo.com or call 410-296-4577.

Annual Meeting & Nominations

The Church Council has set the Annual Meeting for Sunday November 8, 2020 on Zoom following our regular 10:30 am worship.

We will elect three new Council members to three year terms. Those eligible for election to the Church Council are confirmed members of this congregation who are 16 years of age or older who, during the preceding year, have received Holy Communion in this Congregation and have been faithful in corporate worship, unless for good cause prevented, and in working, praying and giving for the spread of the Kingdom of God.

Pastor Stewart has appointed the following members of the Nominating Committee: Justin Dowding, John McConnell, Kari Rudgers, Margaret Dowding, Harold Hardinger, and Barbara Herron. If you have questions about serving, would like to be nominated or nominate someone else, please
email Justin or speak to any member of the committee.

Pastor Stewart will be co-facilitating the October 28 discussion on Dear Church: A Love Letter from a Black Preacher to the Whitest Denomination in the US. If you would like a copy, they will be available in the office for $15. Contact Pastor Stewart if you are interested in joining the online conversation with our brothers and sisters from the CLAIM churches of Baltimore.
Our own Carolyn Surrick and Ronn McFarlane were featured in the midday concert series at the Church of the Epiphany in Washington, DC.
Take a little while to listen to this amazing concert, or leave it playing in the background as you go about your work.

The Delaware-Maryland Synod of the ELCA broadcasts at 10:00 am here on this website. The Episcopal Diocese of Maryland worships virtually at 11:00am at the Cathedral of the Incarnation. All services are cast on this worship page. Watch Washington National Cathedral's worship here.

online here.

Almighty God, who hast given us this good land for our heritage: We humbly beseech thee that we may always prove ourselves a people mindful of thy favor and glad to do thy will. Bless our land with honorable industry, sound learning, and pure manners. Save us from violence, discord, and confusion; from pride and arrogance, and from every evil way. Defend our liberties, and fashion into one united people the multitudes brought hither out of many kindreds and tongues. Endue with the spirit of wisdom those to whom in thy Name we entrust the authority of government, that there may be justice and peace at home, and that, through obedience to thy law, we may show forth thy praise among the nations of the earth. In the time of prosperity, fill our hearts with thankfulness, and in the day of trouble, suffer not our trust in thee to fail; all which we ask through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
