Safety Procedures for the HMM Modular Unit

The safety of our students is our number one priority, and in order to ensure the safety of the students and staff, we are reviewing our school safety plan and procedures. We realize that implementing these changes may cause some frustration; however, it is most important that the students are safe.

At this time, we are making one specific change that will impact movement throughout the school. This change pertains to access to the modular unit and the main building. From now on, the modular unit and the door to the building will be kept locked at all times. Staff members, however, will have access to these doors.

ARRIVAL TIMES FOR THE MODULAR UNIT: During arrival times, staff members are scheduled to be at the door to allow students access to their classrooms. Please be mindful of your arrival time because at the 9:15 tardy chime, staff members report to their assigned class, and begin working with students.

DURING THE SCHOOL DAY: During the day, teachers/staff members will be able to obtain access to the modular by way of contacting a teacher to open the door, or signing out a key from the office.

o Parents will not be allowed to sign out a key from the office.
o If a parent needs access to the modular, please make sure that you have a scheduled appointment with the teacher, and the office will contact the teacher to let them know you have arrived.
o For those parents who volunteer, or “stuff” Thursday folders, once you have finished with the folders, please leave the folders in the PTA Room. Teachers will pick their folders up from the PTA Room before the end of the day.

We realize that these are significant changes for our school; however, safety is our first priority. We thank you for your patience and understanding as we ensure the safety of our students.

Science Olympiad Team
Many families showed up to the interest meeting and the kids are excited to start.  If you could not attend the meeting, please feel free to contact one of the coaches if you have questions about the information.
At the meeting, the team decided to hold practices on Monday mornings from 8-9am in the science lab.  If we are off of school, due to a holiday, then we will hold practices on Friday morning of that week.  At the first practice, on January 28th, we will send home a schedule of practices, a competition agreement, and contact information.  We will also send home important information pertaining to Science Olympiad.  I encourage parents to attend the first meeting, for informational purposes.
If you are interested in helping coach, please review the coach’s manual for Division A on the NCSO site:
We have created a wiki for parents and team partners to communicate:  The site is currently under construction, but will be up and running for our first practice.
