Have You Thought About How You Can Make an Impact at HMM?
Nominate Yourself for a PTA Officer Position TODAY!
The annual Spring election for PTA Officers is coming soon and the new term begins on July 1, 2013. Taking on an elected position with the HMM PTA is a great opportunity to become more involved in Highland Mill Montessori and make an impact at our wonderful school! Please take a few moments to look over the descriptions of the responsibilities for each of the elected positions (President, Vice President - Programs, Vice President - Family Involvement & Fundraising, Secretary and Treasurer) and think about which role plays to your strengths.
After you've had a chance to think about which role you may like to take on for the upcoming 2013-2014 school year, please complete the 2013-2014 Elected Officers Nomination Form and return to your child's teacher or email Lucinda Supernavage, PTA Nominating Committee Chair, at firstname.lastname@example.org to learn more about how you can become involved!
Spring Gardening Day - Saturday, April 13 - 12pm to 4pm

Thank You! Tea for Teachers was a Great Success!
Thank you to everyone who contributed a breakfast item to our March Tea for Teachers! There were so many delicious treats for our teachers and staff that really started their day off on the right foot!
The next Tea for Teachers will be Wednesday, April 24th, so if you have another chance to wow our teachers and staff with your culinary genius! If you're able to contribute a breakfast item for April, please email email@example.com.
AWESOME HMM Fun Run
The annual HMM Fun Run was so much fun! It was a great kick-off to Spring Break and the kids (and teachers and parents) had a BLAST! Thank you to everyone who sent in bottled water and oranges - our runners were very appreciative!
Want to Know More about the Common Core State Standards?
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools is expanding its efforts to engage parents, staff and the community in the conversation about the Common Core State Standards initiative. An update on CMS’ common core efforts was presented at the March Board of Education meeting and CMS launched a new Common Core site accessible through the CMS homepage. This resource was developed to provide quick access to reliable information and resources on the Common Core State Standards (CCSS).
What Do You Think About the Length of the School Day?
A group of CMS parents has formed a task force that is trying to shorten the length of the school day and change the bell schedule for late release schools. The goal of the task force is to get the school day reduced from 7 hours to 6 1/2 hours and to change the bell schedule so that no school has a dismissal time later than 3:45pm. If you are interested in having the school day shortened and the bell schedule changed, please sign the petition at: http://www.change.org/petitions/change-cms-bell-schedule and write a letter or send an email to the CMS School Board to express your thoughts and opinions regarding the length of the school day and have your voice heard.
Coffee with the Superintendent
CMS Superintendent Heath Morrison will be hosting Coffee with the Superintendent. This is an opportunity to hear his latest thoughts on district initiatives and for parents and community members to share their thoughts on how to help Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools best serve every child, every day, for a better tomorrow. You'll have the opportunity to meet with Heath Morrison on the following dates and times:
- April 15 - Rocky River - 3pm to 4:30pm
- May 8 - Hough - 7:30am to 9am
- June 3 - Vance - 3pm to 4:30pm
