News from YWAM MRDA Vietnam for the month of June 2013

Empowering the poor through community development

Training on Gender Equality and Domestic Violence Prevention

Domestic violence is an issue faced by many families so YWAM together with the People's Committee of Van Con commune held some training to raise awareness in the community on Gender Equality and Domestic Violence.

We emphasised the importance of clear family communication, especially considering many Vietnamese households have more than one generation living together.

Attendees, women and men of different ages, were able to learn about, causes of domestic violence and good strategies to build healthy family relationships.

Community Support and its challenges

One of the families in Bavi that we've been supporting, is facing a very difficult time.  Mr. Thang, pictured here in March, recently had a serious motorbike accident.  After 4 days in coma, he is still in hospital trying to recover from his serious injuries.  Please keep him in mind, as he has some brain damage and is unable to walk.  His wife, Mrs. Xinh is now caring for their three disabled children by herself.
Eye surgery for Loi
Loi a little girl in Tong Bat commune, has had serious eye problems since birth. This has been a big impediment for her studies and limited her enjoyment of daily life, as like any other child she loves to draw.

Aware of her need, YWAM decided to provide special support for Loi to have eye surgery.  After the medical procedures in April, her eyes seemed completely recovered and Loi was back to school enjoying learning and drawing.

Unfortunately, we have just got word she is back in hospital and requires more surgery as one of the lenses has become detached. Please pray for her.

Children's Homes

Five of our children are attending a 3 months sewing course organised by distict leaders in Van Hoa
Family meeting - a time to learn how their children are doing at school and how to better support them.
