I get whelmed sometimes.
And occasionally, I even get overwhelmed.
But your responses to my last e-mail about the Preps final show have increased my whelmingness quotient to a whole new level of wonderfulness.
You could say I’m megawhelmed.
Wow—what loving, touching words you’ve sent my way about the Preps and their place in your lives.
My Preacher Daddy used to say, “send people flowers while they can still smell ‘em.”
Well, I am a very lucky man to have recently received a slew of verbal bouquets from so many of you that it’s truly goose pimple and tears rolling down the cheeks time.
And of course, many well intentioned friends point out that Sinatra and Streisand etc. have “retired” and then performed again.
I certainly intend to keep performing, one way or another.
It’s that or turn into a serial killer.
For those of you who lovingly chastised me for calling it quits, let me make one thing perfectly clear (Good grief, I sound like Tricky Dick Nixon!).
This whole farewell scenario was most definitely not my choice.
But you can’t go out there and perform if ain’t nobody askin’ you to.
Bottom line…I’m not turning in my tuxedo by a long shot.
And I’ll keep the newsletters coming, finish the book and hopefully come your way soon with more songs and memories.
In the meantime… I love you all and thank you from the depths of my heart for all the nice things you had to say and the lovely truly moving memories you shared with me.
Lucky doesn’t begin to describe how I feel.
Take good care of yourself and each other… and keep in touch.
A Prep forever.
