Undergraduate Research & Engagement Symposium
Each year, as part of Loyola's Weekend of Excellence, we celebrate outstanding undergraduate research and community engagement during the academic year. We invite you to join us for the 2019 Undergraduate Research & Engagement Symposium on Saturday, April 13th from 11:00AM-5:00PM at the Mundelein Center for Fine and Performing Arts!

Final Call for Evaluators!

Please consider serving as an evaluator at this year's Undergraduate Research and Engagement Symposium! Evaluators play a crucial role in fostering student learning by providing constructive and positive feedback on student projects during one or more of the following sessions:
  • Poster Session One: 11:00AM-12:30PM
  • Oral Presentations: 12:45PM-2:15PM
  • Poster Session Two: 2:30PM-4:00PM
The deadline has been extended! Please sign up to become an evaluator via this Google form by 5:00PM on Wednesday, April 3rd!

CEL on the Water Tower Campus!

The Center for Experiential Learning is headed to the Water Tower Campus! The CEL will be hosting downtown editions of the Active Teaching Reading Group and the Write Now! Workshop Series on select Wednesdays this semester. To find out more or get involved, email Susan Haarman (

Active Teaching Reading Group
Feb. 13th • Feb. 27th • Mar. 20th • Apr. 17th

Join us for a reading group centered on James Lang's Small Teaching. Build a toolbox of daily classroom activities and tangible tools for teaching. The group meets on select Wednesdays from 11:00AM-12:00PM in School of Communications Room 8 on the Water Tower Campus. Books and lunch will be provided. To join, email Susan Haarman (


The Communities in Solidarity program funds community immersion in engaged learning courses. Apply for up to $500 each semester to help your class connect to Rogers Park and Edgewater. Take your class to a local organization, restaurant or museum or support their Engaged Learning efforts through honoraria for speakers and/or facilitated training from community partners. Apply below!

Priority will be given to participants in the Certificate in Experiential Learning Faculty Development Program

Faculty Center for Ignatian Pedagogy Spring 2019 Workshops and Programs

Join the Faculty Center for Ignatian Pedagogy for their Spring 2019 programs and workshops. All workshops will be streamed online via Zoom. RSVP for upcoming workshops via Eventbrite. For more information, contact Jessica Mansbach at

Assessment workshops are available throughout the year to support the work that you are doing with the assessment of student learning. You are welcome to attend as many workshops as fit your interests and your schedule. We invite you to consider completing the requirements to earn the Assessment Certificate. The ACP is coordinated in partnership with DePaul University. Please contact Shannon Howes or Betsi Burns if you have questions.

2019 Emerging Engagement Scholars Workshop

Please consider applying or nominating a candidate for the 2019 Emerging Engagement Scholars Workshop at the Engagement Scholarship Consortium Conference in Denver, Colorado, October 6-9, 2019. This professional development workshop is for advanced doctoral students and early career faculty and includes a master class in community engaged scholarship theory, and intensives in research project development, framing your CV/dossier, careers outside of academia and small group mentoring with experienced engaged faculty.

The $100 workshop fee includes registration for the full conference as well as the workshop. If you have any questions, please contact Monica Kowal at (505) 277-7186 or email

CEL Community Resource Site

The Center for Experiential Learning has a vibrant library of teaching and learning resources for Loyola faculty. You can access and contribute to these resources through our CEL Community Resources site available through Sakai at the link below. You'll find forms, readings, curriculum  modules, reflection resources, syllabus language, and more. Our hope is that this site will be a living resource where faculty and staff can share further research, examples, articles, assignments, and resources.
