Gearing Up for this Ministry Season
September 2017

Dear Friends and Ministry Partners,

Thank you for your prayers for our summer travels.  We again covered over 5,000 miles of American soil during our two-month trip.  It was a good experience for all of us to visit several colleges with Ian.  He's narrowing down his choices so your prayers are appreciated.  We had many special times with family and friends, presentations at churches and vacation time in the Maine woods and the big cities.  We all felt rested and ready to get back to work in Haiti.
At the World War II Memorial in Washington DC.
We returned to Haiti on Aug 20 and then all of Haiti braced themselves for a possible hurricane. God spared us from Irma and our hearts go out to everyone from the NE Antilles to Florida who suffered Irma's fury. As you can see our house is in great shape, but we're still finishing little projects .  This week we got pictures back up on the walls!
The weekend before school reopened I made good on a promise to the nine Haitian boys who worked so hard helping us on our rebuilding project.  Ian, Erik, Joey and I organized a weekend camping trip in the mountains with them.  We had campfire devotions on the stages of a man's life and God's purposes for young men.  It was a tremendous weekend for all of us.
These young men really grasped a vision for godly manhood that uses strength to protect and to provide and a respect for God's good plan for sexual purity.  Sunday morning we had our own church service on a mountain plateau and seven little boys searching for guava fruit sat down and joined us. Plus a local farmer, who told us he isn't a Christian, asked the boys lots of questions about God and the Bible, and they gave him some excellent answers.  Pray for these young men to shine for Christ this school year.
At the Bible School we have one class getting ready for graduation and a new class getting ready to begin next week.  I'll be teaching Biblical Greek for the 5th time in 7 years, always to our new students.  Our Bible College (FTEL) just marked an important milestone yesterday when our student Peterson Benjamin defended his bachelor's in theology thesis on the topic of improving children's ministry in one of the poorest neighborhoods of Cayes, Haiti.  He did an excellent job. The rest of his class opted for comprehensive exams, which they will take on Sep 30.
Sean's got another World Team ministry trip coming up!

During the last two weeks of September, I'll be traveling with my colleague Gary Clow (WT-Canada) to visit our missionaries and national partners in Suriname and Trinidad.  Both countries have a significant population who follow Hinduism and Islam.  Through the efforts of our World Team workers, churches are being established and many people in spiritual hopelessness are coming to the Light of the love of God through Jesus Christ.  This isn't a question of one religion against another.  It is about the uniqueness and preciousness of Jesus.

Jesus said of himself, "I am the way and the truth and the life.  No one comes to the Father except through me."
(John 14:6)

Prayer Requests
  • Safety for Sean's trip and for God's purposes to prevail in everything.
  • For Heather as she homeschools Ian (12th) and Erik (10th).  For Joey (8th) and Ellie (6th) who are going to Cite Lumiere Christian School.
  • For the 27 returning FTEL students, for the 20+ first year FTEL students and the 33 returning pastoral track-residential students starting Bible School next week.  Their theological studies are a sacrifice for their family's time and budget, but they are serious about learning God's Word and ministry skills.
  • For MEBSH as we still recover from Hurricane Matthew and for all those affected by Hurricanes Harvey and Irma.  God is gracious through every trial.
Our niece Elisa Pawson has joined our family in Haiti until December.  She's spending part of her "gap year" as a teacher's aide at Cite Lumiere Christian School. She helps out the most in Ellie's classroom, which is fun for them.
Thank you for your faithful support in so many ways,

Sean, Heather, Ian, Erik, Joey and Ellie Christensen
