Christensen Update with a Happy Easter!
April 2021

Dear Friends and Ministry Partners,

Happy Easter in French is Joyeuses Pâques which means "Joyous Passover."

Why?

Because Jesus sacrificed himself on Passover as the fulfillment of the original Passover lambs in Egypt.  Their sacrifice then, rescued Israel from God's judgment. Jesus' sacrifice on the cross rescues "whoever believes in Him" from God's just judgment.  Easter celebrates Jesus' resurrection from the dead--because He lives, we too can have life after death.

The Apostle Paul wrote, "For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was riased on the third day according to the Scriptures...By this gospel you are saved" (1Cor. 15:3, 2a).
Ellie has made a lot of college-aged friends during her freshman year of high school, and she recently had surgery.  She dropped a steak knife on her foot that severed the tendon to her big toe, but left the two nerves on either side untouched!  She's now off her crutches, but still in the boot for a few weeks.  Had that injury happened in Haiti, we would have had to come to the U.S. for the surgery.  God knows!  She's happy to have her braces off--see those pearly whites!
Joey gets to fulfill a dream by playing on a high school varsity baseball team--the Providence Athletic Club Panthers.  He's almost done with his last year of high school.  Joey plans to go to CIU in the fall (what a surprise)!
Erik (top left) has made a lot of friends this year, especially with the MKs and theatre people.  He and Ellie are in the spring musical "Once Upon a Mattress."  His dorm roommate for next year is David (in the non-Packers hat), an MK from Senegal.
Heather was the guest teacher at the Mu Kappa (missionary/military kids group) Retreat in February--she led discussions on identity, grief, goodbyes, processing transition and God's faithfulness.  The students were very interactive and appreciative!
Sean spoke in the CIU Men's Chapel on insecurity vs. confidence as men and he summarized his article, "The Six Phases of a Man's Life."  One student told him afterwards, "You taught me how to be a man."  That was the goal!

Ian started his focused elementary education program this semester, doing student observation one day per week and assisting a teacher one day per week.  He loves it and the kids love him.  He is also an assistant in CIU's "E-sports" program that starts this fall--something he is truly passionate about!
Sean got to write the preface to a new book on sending missionaries from Haiti by one of his graduates.  A consortium of Haitian pastors, Sean included, are preparing a follow-up book to be published later this year.

The Bible School had to adjust its hours for several weeks due to insecurity in Haiti, but with the time change, it is now operating mostly normally.  The extension site in remote Jérémie is going well with the monthly modules.

The annual MEBSH convention starts next week.  Many of Sean's Haitian colleagues will be preaching at it.
We praise God that half of our monthly support deficit was met following our Christmas newsletter and several generous "one-time" gifts averted the immediate crisis.  For more details, click on the coins above.
Prayer Topics:
  • For Ian's and Erik's summer employment.
  • For the details of our summer travels visiting supporters.
  • For peace and order in Haiti and for pastors to discern their role as courageous and gracious leaders.
  • For the growing vision of sending Haitian missionaries cross-culturally.
  • For our remaining monthly support deficit to be met.

Celebrating the resurrection of our Lord,

Sean, Heather, Ian, Erik, Joey and Ellie Christensen
