Plans and Virus Update
April 2020

Dear Friends and Ministry Partners,

Pending is trending in 2020, for us and for about everyone.  Proverbs 19:21 states, "Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the Lord that will stand."  We have plans, but we lay them open before the Lord and we yield to His will.

Below is a short video where we give an update on the coronavirus in Haiti, how quarantine is affecting local ministry and what our family's plans are for the upcoming months.

When we returned to Haiti in early September, we planned to have a full school year of ministry, but because of civil unrest, the Bible School had to close until January and so World Team reassigned us to the US for four months.

When we returned to Haiti in February, we planned to have four months to teach five Bible courses and we had a list of weekend outings we planned to do with family and friends.  After one month of classes, all schools in Haiti were closed until further notice because of the Covid pandemic.

'Til the Storm Passes By
What are Haitians doing during this pandemic?  Well, those who live hand-to-mouth are mostly doing what they always do.  Those who can are practicing the same social distancing protocols you and I are doing.  Social media is being used more than ever in Haiti--to share biblical truth and to propagate conspiracy theories that have spread faster than the virus!  Sean is able to provide some informal Bible discussion with his students, graduates and young mentees.

Sean is also helping World Team on some working groups that are producing helpful material for our missionaries--such as indicators of church health and reproduction, and guidelines on risk assessment and security practices. Both are pertinent to our work!
Amazing God
What is our Amazing God doing through this pandemic?  He surely has His own good and wise purposes, to humble the proud, to teach prudence to the foolish and faith to the fearful and to teach us all compassion for one another.

"The Lord brings the counsel of the nations to nothing; he frustrates the plans of the peoples" (Psalm 33:10).

"The counsel of the Lord stands forever, the plans of his heart to all generations" (Ps. 33:11).

ONE THING WE DO KNOW.  The plans of God's heart are for all nations to hear that Jesus rose from the dead, that His death paid the high price of our disobedience and faithlessness toward God and that through trusting in the only Savior, Jesus, we can know God and have eternal life, real life.
Easter Sunday 2020
Our plans, God willing, are to return to the US in June for a home assignment where we will live and serve at Columbia International University for the upcoming school year as their Missionaries in Residence.  Sean will teach two missions courses and he and Heather will mentor students--effectively what we do in Haiti except at our alma mater instead.

We are thrilled to have a year where Joey and Ellie can go to a larger Christian school and play sports, where we can be with our two college students, where Heather can invest in young ladies and where Sean can get some academic stimulation.

Ian has been finishing his CIU semester online while living with Heather's brother's family near Greenville, SC. He plans to work for Sean's dad over the summer in Wisconsin.
Prayer Topics
  •  To discern the needs we can help with and the opportunities the Lord sets before us.
  •  We have a lot of preparations to make for our year-long absence from Haiti. We need clear minds in our decisions and planning.
  •   Pray for Ian and Erik who want to know God's vision for their lives and direction for their futures.
  •  As of today, the COVID-19 epidemic in Haiti has been small and slow.  Praise God for this and pray for God's mercy on Haiti.
  •  World Team has several new fields of ministry in Asia, Africa and South America, but we don't yet have missionaries for them. Pray for Christians to answer His call--Christ's mission isn't finished yet!
Thank you for your love, prayer and support.  We are serving together on Team Jesus!
