Thought for the Week:

Upcoming Events:

Saturday, February 9, 2019
" Magical Evening Out" - 6:30PM Pinecrest
Tuesday, February 12, 2019
Mass - 9:00AM
Dear Parents,
With Catholic Schools Week behind us our thoughts turn to valentines, hearts and love.  We continue to instill in our students that our hearts and the love we show others, make a difference in our homes and in St. Joan of Arc School.  It is appropriate that we live this quote from St. Teresa of Calcutta this month (and always):
“We cannot do great things, only small things with great love.”
In thanksgiving for your never ending support, generosity, and dedication, please find in tomorrow's Thursday envelope a small token of our appreciation. Please show your support of St. Joan of Arc School and of Catholic education by displaying this gift proudly. (please note: The Magnet Group recommends removing the magnet for occasional cleaning)
We congratulate our second graders who met Jesus for the first time in the Sacrament of Reconciliation.  They are now one step closer to receiving Jesus in the Eucharist for the first time. May the children and their families be blessed in abundance.
Congratulations to our Spelling Bee winner, Aidan Tripodo.  Aidan will  represent St. Joan of Arc School at the annual Plain Dealer Scripps National Spelling Bee.  We also congratulate our Spelling Bee runner-up, Jake Romanini.

February Dates to Keep in Mind:
February 14 – Valentine’s parties
February 15 – No School
February 18 – Presidents’ Day ~ No School

God's Blessings,
Shelley DiBacco

Weekend Update for CYO Basketball:
The 6th grade boys beat St. Gabriel 33-17 to complete a perfect 7-0 record in the regular season.  The offense was in high speed once again scoring off the tip, and they found their long-range shot dropping 6 three pointers by three different players.  Slater Schoaf led the team in scoring with 13 followed by Josh Koltas with 8 as 7 of the 8 Crusaders on hand finished the game with points.
The 7th Grade Boys team hit a tough stretch last weekend dropping two close games.

Saturday at the SJA gym the boys lost 34-38 to St. Dominic. The Crusaders erased a 7-point halftime deficit in the 3rd quarter but St Dominic rallied in the 4th to pull away. The Crusaders scoring charge was led by Jack Alexander (8 points) and Camden Vogley (8 points) while Holden Kajfasz (4 steals) and Connor Romanini's (5 rebounds) defense pushed the 3rd quarter comeback.

Sunday the boys again started slowly and found themselves down 10 points after the first quarter however they turned it around and pushed the game all the way into overtime before dropping a 46-51 decision to Our Lady of the Lake. Connor Romanini (9 points) hit two pressure loaded free throws with just 7 seconds on the clock to send the game into overtime but OLL hit a late 3-pointer to seal the OT victory. Camden Vogley came out on fire and led all scoring with 17 points. Jack Alexander added 10 points and 7 rebounds. The entire team played one of their best offensive games of the season sharing the ball which showed up in their high mark of 16 assists.

The 8th grade boys defeated Our Lady of the Lake 52-13. The boys played a strong defensive game. Scorers were Carter Kler-14 pts, Aidan Tripodo-10 points, Damian Cleveland-8, John Kellis-5, Finn Matheney/Jack Jacobs-4 pts each, Nate Kirschman/Sam Jacobs/Jake Romanini-2 pts each, and Parker Munday-1.
