Dear Parents,
This weekend we celebrate the Third Sunday of Advent, Gaudete Sunday, and light the pink candle on our Advent wreathes. The change in color provides us with encouragement to continue our spiritual preparation for Christmas.  In these crazy and hectic days of Christmas shopping, baking, decorating and festivities, we need to remember to take time to be still, to be quiet, to be at peace and ask the Lord to enter in. "Jesus is the reason for the season" and we can quickly forget that amidst the hustle and bustle of preparing for his birth.  Be mindful of this wonderful season of joy and gratitude, expectation and preparation.
Last Saturday morning over 200 adults and children attended our St. Joan of Arc Breakfast with Santa.  Fun was had by ALL.  A HUGE thank you to our PTO officers, special chairmen, committee members, and volunteers for their hard work and personal time given to the Christmas Shop and Santa Breakfast.
Over the past few weeks, our MakerSpace has been bustling with activity.  We’ve seen everything from models of the Vatican created with Legos, an “old fashioned boom box” made using the 3D printer, informative planet posters printed on our Poster Maker and the 8th grade final genealogical projects created using the 2D Laser Cutter.  A huge thank you to our PTO and to all those who donated to help make this space a reality.
Although we are busy with Christmas, our teachers are still dedicated to teaching and the students are still learning. Many of our teachers have attended inservices this past couple of weeks.  Miss Molder, our junior high Math teacher and technology specialist, attended the 2018 Ideastream Technology and Learning Conference at the PBS Ideastream building downtown.  The inservice focused on the integration of instructional technology to improve teaching and student achievement.  Miss Molder was able to talk with other local teachers to discuss current technology apps we are using in our classroom, technology ideas we would like more information or help on, and the best practices for incorporating technology in our daily lessons.  She also attended a breakout session focused on the MakerSpace.   She was given hands on opportunities to practice and develop MakerSpace lessons and she was also able to collaborate with other teachers from various local schools on how to utilize our MakerSpace and the best practices for incorporating it in the curriculum.  Mrs. Lapso, our 1st grade teacher, attended the Ohio Literacy Conference in Columbus, Ohio. This specialized conference focused on literacy instruction for K-3, covering foundational reading and writing skills and concepts. Each session focused on a different component of literacy development, while allowing for real-world examples and feedback from a wide-variety of educators.  Watch for updates on the various other inservices our teachers attended!
Wishing that the Season of Advent fill your hearts with peace and happiness!
 God's Blessings,
Shelley DiBacco

This Week in Crusader Basketball….
The 6th Grade Boys improved to 2-0 on the season by defeating St. Paschal Baylon 26-18.  Peter Spellacy led the team in scoring with 9 points followed by AJ Panzica (7), and AJ Gildone (6).  SJA went on a 9-0 run to end the first quarter, and the defense held SPB to just 2 points in each of the 1st and 4th quarters.
The 7th Grade Boys team outlasted St. Gabriel 41-32 on Sunday. The boys pulled out from a 1 point half-time defect by posting a 15-4 third quarter. The team switched into a full court press which allowed them to turn the tables on St. Gabe. Top steals were posted Ricky Holmes (3), Jack Alexander (3) and Camden Vogley. High scorers for the game were Leo Fonash (12 points) and Camden Vogley (10 points).

Science Fair Judges Needed
Science Fair Judges needed: Are you interested in encouraging young students appreciation for Science? Do you work as a scientist or engineer? Then please consider judging the Saint Joan of Arc Science Fair to be held on Saturday, January 26, 2019 from 10 am until 2 pm at Saint Joan of Arc School. Science projects are often the first experiences that inspire students to work in the Science field. Come see the scientists of tomorrow! Mr. Nieves and our SJA students would greatly appreciate your support during this process.  Please contact Mr. Nieves at stjoan6@stjoanofarc.org or at 440-247-6530 if you would like to volunteer.
