Dear Parents,
During Catholic Schools Week, Superintendent of Catholic Schools, Dr. Frank O’Linn, sent a congratulatory letter and service pin to five of our teachers who have marked milestones in years of service to Catholic education in the Diocese of Cleveland.  Samantha Converse, our Kindergarten teacher, Nate Luengo, our 8th grade teacher and Caitlin Bias, our second grade teacher, were all recognized for five years of service.  Our school Media Specialist, Gina Huber, was recognized for ten years and our 7th grade teacher, Nancy Ball, was honored with a pin for her twenty years of service in the Diocese of Cleveland. We thank them for her faith-filled dedication to the work of Catholic education.  And we thank our good and loving God for blessing St. Joan of Arc School with their ministry!
“Teaching has an extraordinary moral depth and is one of man’s most excellent and creative activities, for the teacher does not write on inanimate material, but on the very spirit of human beings.”

Weekend Update for CYO Basketball:
7BB: In the most recent game of the St. Dominic Tournament, 7th graders, Camden Vogley (11), Holden Kajfasz (10) and Jack Alexander (7) led the offense but double-digit turnovers stopped the boys from pulling the game out in the end. The 42-36 loss puts them in a must win situation for their final round-robin game.

Saturday's regular season game was more kind to the team as they topped Notre Dame Elementary School (NDES) on their home court 37-21. A well contested game was turned in their favor when Camden Vogley (8 points) stole a pass and hit a twisting three-pointer at the halftime buzzer. The boys started the 3rd quarter strong and Clay Bittner stopped any hope NDES had when he swished an 18-foot 3rd quarter jumper and put the game out of reach for NDES. Leo Fonash (7 points), Connor Romanini (6 points) and Colm Matheney (4 points) paced the scoring while Jack Alexander and Holden Kajfasz drove the offense combining for 7 assists.

3BB: In a regular season game against, our 3rd grade boys, led by a ferocious defense of Charlie Panzica, Eddie Gleine, Brooks Kler, Tripodo showed great ball control the entire game.  Henry Strekal and Nathan Majors contributed in a major was by setting picks and movement away from the ball allowing Joey Holmes and Ethan White to get buckets. 16 buckets to 14 buckets! SJA came out on top!

The 5th grade boys played a tough game on Saturday coming up just short losing 29-25. The boys were down 12 points going into the 4th quarter and battled back in a very exciting game. The Crusaders were led by Christian Bittner with 10 points. Also contributing were Pierce Brown with 6, Massimo Beatrice with 4, Aiden Insana with 3 and Jimmy Geralis with 2. Canyon Yeager, Ryan Panzica, Drew Arslanian, Max Stefano and Owen Cunningham also played very well.

The 6th grade boys were short-handed with just 6 players available for their matchup against a big and physical St. John Vianney team. The Crusaders had to play from behind the entire game until 3:20 remaining in the 4th when AJ Gildone hit his 1st free throw to capture the lead for good.  The lead was extended to as many a 5 points and St. Joan held on to win it 21-19 thanks to aggressive defense in the full court press by Peter Spellacy and Charlie Eibler down the stretch.  Slater Schoaf led the team in scoring with 10, followed by AJ Panzica with 6.  All 6 players ended the game with points as Nolan Gellin scored his first of the season after being out for the last two games.

Good Luck to all of our Crusader Hoopsters as they continue competing in some amazing tournaments!
