Dear Parents,
Beginning next week, your child will take tests called Measures of Academic Progress® (MAP®).   This online assessment replaces the IOWA tests that were taken previously. We will administer MAP tests to determine each child’s instructional level and to measure academic growth throughout the school year (and from year to year) in Math, Reading, and Science.
These tests will be used to benchmark all students and to help identify individual strengths and needs for intervention.  MAP tests are unique in that they adapt to be appropriate for each child’s level of learning.  They also provide detailed information about every child’s growth.
This school year, students in grades K-8 will take the MAP tests in Math, Reading, and Science on days selected during the following windows: Fall (September 10- September 28), Winter (January 7 - January 25), and Spring (April 29 – May 17).  Following each testing period, you will receive a report that informs you of your child’s performance.
As always, I encourage you to contact your child’s teacher if you ever have questions about your child's progress.  Open and ongoing communication between school and home will only help your child be as successful as possible! Please do not hesitate to reach out.
It is so nice to see the parents of our school children and our St. Joan of Arc parishioners at mass.  Mass begins at 9:00AM.  If you arrive after Mass has started,  please do not interrupt the celebration of the liturgy by walking around trying to find your child/children to sit with you.  Once Mass has begun, students will have to remain seated with their class.

Parking Lot Reminders
As school begins and parish activities are more popular, might I offer a few reminders when coming and going from St Joan of Arc?
1.    Please be “courteous” and park in the lined parking places at St. Joan of Arc and avoid making “our own parking places.” We also ask that the designated areas for “handicapped” parking be respected.  Not only is all of this courteous, but parking is necessary in the event emergency vehicles need to come to St. Joan of Arc.
2.    Also in our parking lot, please be attentive to drive slowly through the parish lot.  This is the virtue of “Safety.”  ALL of us can be attentive to this – parishioners, students, staff, faculty, visitors, and everyone!

3.  Please remember that all cars should be parked facing forward in the main parking lot.  At no time should any cars be parked in the small lot between the church and the Parish Life Center.

4. I know that you all love your "fur babies" (AKA dogs) very much, but for the safety and protection of all of our students, I am asking you not to have them out in the parking lot with you.  If you must bring them to school for pick-up, please keep them in the car!
