Dear Parents, September is quickly coming to an end. We are at the mid-point of the first quarter of school. Students and teachers have their routines down, and we’re moving steadily ahead. Our dedicated faculty and staff are working hard to provide a wide variety of learning activities in the classroom and in extracurricular activities. They create a learning environment that nurtures excellence and integrates the message of Jesus into every classroom. The students in grades Kindergarten through 3rd grade were treated to an "Author Spotlight" this past week. Mrs. Carol Wulff, the author of the children's book, William the What-if Wonder, came in to talk to the students. This wonderful book is perfect for the beginning of the school year as it talks all about beginning of the year jitters and on-going school anxiety. Mrs. Wulff began by reading the story to the students and then she discussed the theme of the book with them. She continued her presentation by talking about how she went about writing and publishing a book. Mrs. Wulff explained that you find an idea, write about what you know, add details/tell a story, and then illustrate the story. After the presentation the students began brainstorming an idea for their own story and illustrated a book cover for it. We are anxious to read what our budding authors write! In order to tie our school theme, “Be a builder of God’s Kingdom”, to our new MakerSpace we will have a visit from Natalie Wardega from RePlay for Kids on Thursday, September 20th. The mission of RePlay for Kids is to increase the availability of toys and assistive devices for children with disabilities. They repair existing devices, adapt mainstream toys, and design new devices. Each month a different classroom will go to the MakerSpace and work with a representative from RePlay to help build these toys. As our MakerSpace evolve, our teachers were trained yesterday on using the 3D Printer and the ActivPanel. Teachers will soon be trained on using the poster maker that arrived yesterday! The St. Joan of Arc PTO will be selling mums again this year in the parking lot after school starting Thursday, September 27th and going through Saturday, September 29th. Mums will be sold from 3:00-4:00PM on Thursday and Friday, from 4:30-6:00 PM on Saturday. Mums are $6 each or $5.00 each if you buy 4 or more.

Parking Lot Reminders DROP OFF DO’S •The East Washington Street entrance will be an “exit only” during morning drop off. Enter the school parking lot from Pheasant Run Drive. •Cars should follow a single file line to the front door. •All children should exit out the right side of vehicle when possible. •Be as timely as possible when dropping off children. •When you have multiple things to unload, please pull forward near grass and unload, so the line keeps moving. •If you have to walk your children into the school, stay in a single drop off line, then proceed and park in Side Lot between church and gym. Walk on sidewalk into school to avoid cutting across drop off line traffic. •Please watch your speed when entering and leaving the school. •Please be patient, and wait your turn to drop off. •Please be cautious of parishioners exiting the church. DROP OFF DON’TS •Do not form another lane to drop off around other cars or buses. •Do not pass vehicle in front of you on the left if your children exit your vehicle before others in front of you. •Please do not park, and have your children walk in front of, or behind the drop off lane to beat the time in line. •Please do not speed in the parking lot. Dismissal Parents are to wait for their children outside of the school building. NEVER park up near the school building since busses need room to park and to come in and out. Parents may not park in the small parking lot between the gym and the church. ALL STUDENTS WILL BE DISMISSED AT 3:00 PM. Bus riders will line up by the library doors and board their respective buses there. Teachers will walk the car riders out the main entrance and the students will remain with their teachers until a parent comes to get them. In order for this procedure to run smoothly, please be here by 3:00 PM to pick up your child/children. PICK UP DON’TS •Do not put your car in reverse to exit the parking space. •Do not let your children run to the car, or walk between vehicles. •Please do not socialize between or in front of vehicles. •Please do not try to cut around the exiting line.
Calling ALTAR SERVERS Students in grade 6-8 (and older - including high school) are invited to be trained as Altar Servers at St. Joan of Arc. New Servers should come to one of the following training dates: Wednesday October 10 from 3:15 to 4:30 pm or Thursday October 11 from 3:45 to 5:00 pm. Parents are welcome to attend. Permission slips are needed for new servers to be trained and to serve at mass. Sign-up forms (which include the permission slips) are available from the Parish Office, School Office, PSR Office, and online. Re-training is not necessary for those who are currently Altar Servers. Thank you for your ministry of service!
Legos We are in need of Legos for our new Lego Wall in our MakerSpace. If you happen to have any Legos at home that you are no longer using, please send them to school. Legos may be dropped off to Mrs. Huber in the library/MakerSpace.
Just a reminder that gym uniforms may be ordered from SchoolBelles any time of the year.
Lunch Help St. Joan of Arc School is still looking for two full-time Lunch/Playground monitors. This is a paid position requiring a year-long commitment. If needed, this could be a position split between two people, someone to work MWF and another TTh. If you are interested in becoming a monitor or if you know of someone else who may be interested in these positions, please contact Shelley DiBacco at firstname.lastname@example.org or 440-247-6530.

Our first official PTO meeting is Friday, September 21st at 8:45 am in the rectory basement. All are welcome! In addition our first Dads Do Lunch of the year is also on Friday.
There will be a uniform swap in the school gym this Friday from 7:30-2:00 pm. You can place your donations in the bin in the front hall on Thursday.
