    • Conner Reuelu (Year 9) - for being a motivated and enthusiastic student, completing work to a high standard.
    • Pupi Muller (Year 8) - for working to an extremely high standard, both at school and home. He shows care, attention to detail, and creativity in his work.
    • Taine Tengblad (Year 7) - for consistently demonstrating diligence and positivity in class, resulting in excellent outcomes.

    • John-Paul Bayliss (Year 12) - for his assistance in the digital office, working hard on his course work and representing the College respectfully.
    • Scott Berrill (Year 8) - for being a trustworthy, hardworking, and polite young man who consistently looks out to support both his teachers and peers in their commitments.

Special Character

Year 7 - Father and Son Mass and Breakfast

We are delighted to confirm the date for our upcoming Year 7 Father and Son Mass and Breakfast is Friday 17 June. Beginning with the celebration of Mass in the Chapel at 7.30am by our celebrant Fr Stephen Berecz, followed with breakfast in the Auditorium. More information will be provided next week and tickets will be made available for purchase via our College website


Year 8 - Father and Son Mass and Breakfast

We are delighted to confirm the date for our upcoming Year 8 Father and Son Mass and Breakfast is Friday 1 July (please note, this is an update to the printed calendar which reads Year 11 Father and Son Mass and Breakfast). Beginning with the celebration of Mass in the Chapel at 7.30am by our celebrant Fr Stephen Berecz, followed with breakfast in the Auditorium. Family Mass

Thank you to those who joined us last Sunday for our Family Mass. Special thanks to Bishop Steve Lowe and Headmaster Patrick Walsh and his family. The collection of $1650 will go towards Marist works in the Pacific, we are truly grateful for your support. To view the photos, visit our website.

Young Vinnies

Annual Pyjama Drive

The Young Vinnies, led by Max Byers, John Faualo and Corey Keil, are running the annual Pyjama Drive. We are requiring donations of warm, brand new children’s pyjamas for Starship Hospital’s Ronald McDonald House. This commenced on Tuesday 17 May and will run until Friday 10 June. Pyjama donations will be collected on Wednesdays during Homeroom.

Thank you for your generosity!
A BIG thank you for your support for the primary school in the outer islands of Ha’apai, Tonga. We collected 2 car loads and 3 trailer loads of clothes, books, learning and sports equipment! They were very grateful!

Mathematics

Maths Clinic
All students are welcome to join our weekly maths clinic during lunchtime on Wednesdays throughout the term. Maths teachers are available in K13 to help you with any questions you may have.

Arts and Culture 

Matariki Dinner - Saturday 18 June

We are looking forward to our annual Matariki Dinner, this year to be held on Saturday 18 June. The evening will include a 3-course meal, Cash Bar, Live Auction, Silent Auction, and Entertainment. Doors open from 5.30pm, event starts 6.30pm.

Silent Auction donations can be delivered to the Uniform Shop, or contact Mrs Kelly Jennings for more information.

Walter Kirby - Thursday 30 June

Walter Kirby is our annual Sacred Heart College music competition, and this year is our 86th year! One of the highlights of our music calendar, it is for both solo and group performances, multiple categories, and covering all year groups. The Walter Kirby Competition this year is on Thursday 30 June in the Theatre. Tickets will be available via our website from next week, and also at the door. Adults $10, children and students free. Doors open at 5.30pm, show starts at 6.30pm.
Food and refreshments are available from 5.30pm and during interval - cash only.
Performers in Formal Uniform please. 
Students - How to enter?
Students are to complete the entry form on the Student Portal. Once logged in, go to ‘Permission Slips and Forms” click “Start form” and select the entry form from the list provided, complete and submit.

Pastoral Care & Student Services

COVID and Winter Illnesses

We urge parents to please keep your son/s at home if they are unwell or have any active respiratory or gastro symptoms. Even if your son has had COVID, there are other viral illnesses circulating along with more information being gathered about COVID reinfection. Our Health Centre is seeing a large number of boys presenting during the day, some of which should have not even come to school. For the health and safety of all our students and staff, please respect this request.
 

Uniform Shop

This week we launched a new online Uniform Shop on our website. We hope you enjoy this easy and convenient way to purchase uniform items, SHC supporters' gear and memorabilia items. Please note all purchased uniform items will be available for collection from our onsite Uniform Shop within a few days of ordering. Delivery is only available for memorabilia items purchased.
 

SHC Leavers Jersey and Ring

We are pleased to announce that the Sacred Heart College Old Boys Ring and Leavers Jersey are now available for College leavers to order and pay for via our online Uniform Shop.

SHC Old Boys Ring
There will be two ring sizing sessions to be held on Monday 27 June and Monday 4 July in R2 during lunchtime. Any students wishing to purchase a ring must attend one of these sessions to ensure they are ordering the correct size.

Orders must be placed no later than Monday 19 September. Please see the flyer for more details.

Leavers Jersey
The 2022 Leavers Jersey will have '22' printed on the back of the jersey as well as your son's name. The Marist emblem is on the left-hand side, just above the cuff. Orders must be in by 25 July. Order now!

Sport

AIMS Game 2022

We are delighted to announce that we will be attending AIMs Games in Tauranga this year. This is an initial plea to the wider community for those who have some contacts for accommodation from 3-9 September. If you are able to help, please contact Mr Nick Guise. Your help would be sincerely appreciated!

Water Polo 

Intermediate Year 7/8 - Eastern League Competition
Sacred Sharks had a win against St Heliers 21-0, our Dolphins won against St Cuths 15-0, and the Sacred Snappers came away with a victory against Churchill Park 10-1.
The Sharks play the Dolphins tonight in the SHC derby, and the Snappers play St Thomas’ team.
 
Juniors - Winter League
Our Junior Red team won against the Baradene Barracudas 7-3 and the Junior Blue team lost to Dio in a tough game. Both Junior Red and Blue teams now have a few weeks off now until 12 June.
 
Winter Wave Water Polo
Our Winter Wavers are continuing to improve their skills, make new friends and are having a ball! This week USA play Greece and Italy play Montenegro at 8am and Spain play Serbia and Croatia play Hungary at 9am. Go well boys!

On the sideline - St John Ambulance and Coffee Cart

This year the PTA are again helping out on the sideline. St John Ambulance will be on-site this Saturday morning throughout from 9am until 12noon. There will also be a coffee cart on-site selling drinks - delicious range available. Small (8oz) $4.50, Medium (12oz) $5, and Large (16oz) $6, any extras ie, syrup, chocolate, alternative milk +50c. Frappes and Smoothies are $6.50.

Our Auckland Information Evening is being held next month on Tuesday 21 June, at 6.30 pm at Ellerslie Event Centre. This is a great opportunity to hear all about Otago, including accommodation, scholarships and study options.

Defence Force 

The last Information Evening is being held on Thursday 2 June, 5.45pm - 7.45pm. Please click on the date and click either "interested" or "going". When Facebook opens the event (which is normally about 24 - 48hrs prior to the event), the button saying "join event" will highlight, and you will be given the virtual room link from there.

Job Vacancies

Learning Support Department –Teacher Aide
Opportunities are available in our Learning Support Department commencing immediately. This role will be supporting a Year 7 student with behavioural and learning needs, working collaboratively with his teachers, specialists and the Learning Support Department. Saturday Evening Mass - on this week

There will be Saturday Evening Mass held at the College Chapel on Saturday 28 May, at 5.15pm. Please keep an eye on our newsletter for information on when Masses will be on as it may change week from week. 

Concert for the Ukraine at St Patrick’s Cathedral

The Choirs from Carmel and Rosmini Colleges with special guests, the Handel Quire, will offer music for the people of Ukraine. There will also be prayer reflection and guest speakers. A retiring collection will be taken at the end of the concert with funds raised being sent to Ukraine via Rotary NZ World Community Service. St Patrick’s Cathedral, Saturday 28 May at 4pm.
