The feather; the pen
Bienvenidos al noticiero: La Pluma. Welcome to the Newsletter.
Hello <<First Name>>,
The feather/pen, once dipped into an ink well, fits the image for my website addition; a letter to you.
Last March, my book, Northern Shores/ Southern Borders: Revelations of a Bilingual Life, was on its way to press. I printed out my “Book Birth Announcement” and waited. I envisioned a celebratory Book Launch at Central Lakes College complete with home-made Mexican paper flowers. Mom was on her way to her 94th birthday and I would fulfill my goal of placing my “book baby” in her still warm hands! We were on the cusp of realizing our dream when. . .
. . .COVID hit. Within days, the world shut down. We waited. Would it be fourteen days of quarantine or, who knew? This week, we hit the one-year anniversary. Now, we wait to be vaccinated.
Yesterday, the quote written on my tea bag tag read:
“Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass. It’s learning to dance in the rain.” - Unknown
Today, my Noticiero, La Pluma,
comes into the world on my Mom’s birthday. This time, she is not here to celebrate. Read my article about Mom's Hospice
is my letter to you. It will include cultural events, traditions, networking, and the occasional quip about languages. Where do you hear Spanish? Last week, it was Rachel Maddox! Or, those English phrases sprinkling through our daily speech. “Prime the pump?” Bet they never did that for real!
