Greetings friends, colleagues and art enthusiasts! I just returned from a trip to the USA where I spent 2 months in CA, AZ, & NM, studying, painting and traipsing about in gorgeous nature!  Below you will find a quick recap - heavy on visuals, light on text.

Training with the Masters!

I spent 3 weeks in Arizona learning from Skip Whitcomb, Ray Roberts and Rob Liberace.

Scottsdale Artists' School hosts hundreds of workshops throughout the year with the nation's best artists. I took two plein air landscape classes and one figure class, some results below:

The classical figure - a modern approach.
Tiny monochrome value studies in plein air, great exercise!
Extreme Plein Air, near Scottsdale, AZ
Lost Dog Trail, one of my favorite hiking spots.

Exhibit "Keepers of the Earth"

at Coronado Taste of Oils, Coronado, CA. (April 1 - end of May)

and some of the paintings which found new homes during the show.
The above painting was presented to the captain and crew of the newly commissioned U.S.S. Coronado.

The 3rd annual Plein Air Convention and Expo in Monterey, CA

.... attended by about 700 people. Loads of demos, presentations, a marketing "boot camp" every day at 6:30 am and painting every afternoon. As an invited Field Instructor, it was both inspiring and humbling to be amongst so many excellent painters!

With Kevin Macpherson ...............................and other excellent company!
Leave it to painters to employ the homeless! These two were surrounded by artists who appreciated their unique appearance.

"all work and no play...."

I did manage to spend time with family and friends while stateside. A very good thing!

At the bus stop, Pt. Lobos (near Carmel, CA). Where else do you meet a Russian, an American from Zambia, a Bulgarian and a guy from Thailand?  ....and that's my charming sister, Susan, with me in Santa Fe, NM.

Thanks for taking the time to read this, I hope you enjoy the updates.
Please take a look at my BRAND NEW WEBSITE! - easier to navigate & featuring translation buttons, and painting descriptions (titles, sizes, availability and prices).

With warmest regards, Katerina
