OUR 2016 SEASON

A THEATRICAL ROAD TRIP

First Stop:  Quills

The first leg of 2016's "theatrical road trip" takes us to the Charenton insane asylum just east of Paris at the turn of the 19th century. There, we will meet the infamous Marquis de Sade, one of the asylum's most notable inmates.

Written by the Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Doug Wright, Quills is a fictionalized account of the last days of the notorious Marquis that explores deliciously meaty topics with exuberance, glee, and hilarious irreverence. The production features two newcomers to our stage, Phillip Regan as the Marquis and Rachel Sparks in a double role as Madeleine and Madame Royer-Collard, as well as MTC veterans Mark Friedrich, Steven P. Worthen, Mark Marco, and Janice Culliford. We assure you that in the hands of seasoned director Ann Woodhead, and her team of talented designers, Quills is a theatrical experience you don't want to  miss.

THANK YOU, SUSAN JUHL!

Our dear friend Susan Juhl has recently withdrawn from the Mendocino Theatre
Company's board of directors after  nearly 25 years of service, so we thought this would be a good time to pay tribute to her contributions to the arts of our community.

Over the years, Susan has been president, vice-president, and secretary of the MTC board of directors; her calm rationality has helped MTC weather some serious storms, and she has made significant financial contributions to the company.  Her artistic focus has been primarily in the realm of sound design.  With imagination and a large music library to draw upon, she has chosen the background music and sound cues for many productions. Remember reel-to-reel tape?  That was the medium when she began this work.

Susan was instrumental in getting KZYX on the air and in shaping its commitment to classical music.  Many of you know her from her weekly radio show, "Loose Canon Classics"

And every spring, she gives a substantial scholarship to a local high school student who is going to college and boldly planning to major in one of the performing arts.

A thousand thanks, Susan Juhl!  We could not be where we are without you.

With gratitude,

                    MTC

more thanks...

Company members Lee Edmundson, Steve Greenwood, Dave Gealey and Jim Gibson have been working like crazy the past two weeks to get the stage cleaned, painted and illuminated. The work they have done (with help from several volunteers) will improve the quality of our productions this year, making it easier for designers to do their work.

Please join us in thanking them!
