Microsoft talks with us about Diversity and what they'll be doing at GaymerX
We sit down with Jerome Hagen, Senior User Researcher at Microsoft Studios.

Why is diversity and GaymerX important to Microsoft?

Diversity and inclusion are core values at Microsoft.  We know that diverse and inclusive development teams are the highest performing teams.  We also know that a focus on including all potential customers leads to better products. These principles apply to everything we do as a company. Within Xbox specifically, we started sharing more a few months ago about our focus on Gaming for Everyoneand our work to make Xbox a place where everyone is welcome, respected, and supported.  LGBTQ gamers and game developers are critical to include, as are people with all the identities, backgrounds, and experiences represented at GaymerX.  We’re very excited to be supporting GaymerX and everyone who is dedicated to moving the game industry forward.

What will Microsoft be doing at GaymerX?
For anyone attending GaymerX, we’ll have free codes for GaymerX Xbox avatar digital t-shirts. Your avatar will be able to show your GaymerX pride on Xbox Live (available on Xbox One, Windows 10, and Xbox 360).  We also have talks and panel participation from six Microsoft employees, including several members of Team Xbox LGBTQ.  You’ll be able to hear about games user research, building VR and non-VR games with Unity, using Git, and game jams. We’ll also have a special session in the Diversity Theater about the ID@Xbox program and how independent developers can get their games on Xbox One and Windows 10.  And of course, we’re looking forward to having fun at GaymerX and talking to all of you! There just might be some surprises as well.  See you at GaymerX for more!

What new product / service / information are you most anxious to share with GaymerX attendees?
The talk on Reducing Unintended Bias Through Games User Research will be the very first time we talk publicly about user research specifically as a tool for supporting diversity and inclusion.  We’ll share details about how to better include all kinds of players as an integrated part of the game development process.  We’re happy to be able to debut those details at GaymerX.

Thank you, Jerome. We look forward to engaging with you and your team at GX4!
