Thank you so much for your prayers and continued support as we serve with Doing Family Right.
As you know we had an incredibly busy speaking year last year, especially through the summer and it went all the way through December. We have had time to recover and settle things somewhat, which we are deeply grateful for.
I (Dave) felt God pushing and leading me towards growth in the area of speaking last year, and God taught me so many things.
- To trust and rely on HIS affirmation instead of the world’s.
- That He is working, even when I – in my humanness – can’t see it.
- That He has blessed me with an incredibly loving and supportive wife as my support and partner. (Which I knew before but really became evident stretched so far)
- That when He calls you to do something, you can accomplish far more than you ever imagined possible.
- And so much more…
Which leads me into this year. Last year I prayed about God’s direction and felt strongly that He was pushing me towards pursuing speaking engagements. Camps became a huge focus but youth groups, churches, youth leader training, parenting workshops and really anything that He brought our way filled our year; anything that builds the family and connects families with each other and to God.
A couple of months ago I asked God what the focus of the coming year should be, and I really felt that He was pushing me to challenge myself in the area of writing. The Fellowship of Evangelical Bible Churches has asked me to provide an article for the publication that comes out every two months. My articles are being published on our DFR site and I’m blogging more effectively as well. I’ve also been sorting and praying through a couple of book ideas and have really landed on what I believe God has called to me to write.
I don’t want to spoil it, so I’ll just say that it allows me to tap into my passion for parenting while intermingling it with my spiritual gift of shepherding. I’m praying and writing, and seeing where God may want to take it. Thank you for praying for me as I listen and move forward in this area – which is entirely new and stretching for me.
You can also be praying for Melissa as she continues her pursuit of her Masters Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy. She will be heading back to school FULL time in September in order to push through more effectively and quickly, which we are all excited about as a family.
Our kids are doing great and our lives are incredibly full! Grand-parenting is a wild new adventure that I love – because I love babies and don’t have to wake up with this one. ;)
As much as I’m excited and nervous about writing, we’re also approaching summer again and this year is even more full than last year. We currently have 7 camps booked between June and August. They are more spread out and a couple of them are shorter weekend camps as compared to full weeks last summer, which I hope is a better balance of our efforts and allows us to take on more without burning ourselves out.
We would LOVE for you to be praying with us as we speak, and as you can imagine speaking this much will slow down the writing for many of those weeks.
