It's February!

Valentine’s Day is the holiday that centers this month. This month is also my birthday month, my son’s birthday month, my brother’s birthday month, my mother’s birthday month, and so many more. One thing birthdays do is center the world on ourselves. It’s all about me - celebrate me! One way we can celebrate ourselves is to remember our self-care. So, regardless if this is your birth month, or not… Remember, too, we also celebrate love. So, use this month for self-love and give yourself the gift of self-care.

Self-love and Self-care

Loving ourselves is a first and critical step to loving others and our world. So often (women especially) we are taught to sacrifice ourselves for the sake of others. My mother went without new prescription glasses, for example, because money had to be handled carefully and she prioritized our shoes and well-fitting clothes over her new prescriptions. (Positive changes and she gets all the new glasses she needs now.) Let’s not live in this kind of world where we forsake our own sight in order to shoe others. Let’s all see and walk, healthfully, together. Recognizing that we need care to be our best, that we need full buckets, in order to serve others is crucial. Self-care can take many forms. It can be a 5-minute meditation break, journaling so you clear your thoughts, listening to your favorite music, reinforcing boundaries so you can do all those things. Or, it can be something more extravagant like mani/pedis at the local spa. We do self-care so we can take care of those we love. When those we love are taken care of and shown a good example of self-stewardship, this example will trickle out to the rest of the world.

Diffuser Idea

In the spirit of self-care and self-stewardship, let’s diffuse with frankincense and geranium this month. If you have your rose, neroli, and jasmine, apply these often too. These oils support self-love, truth, and care for the heart.

  • 4 drops geranium
  • 2 drops frankincense
  • Do this for a week. How do you feel?

DIY #1

Sometimes self-care means treating ourselves to sweet treats or other cravings. Make these chocolates in a double boiler or in the microwave.

  1. Melt chocolate
  2. Add essential oils
  3. Stir
  4. Pour into silicone mold
  5. Refrigerate for an hour or two until hardened
  6. Enjoy!

DIY #2

From the doTERRA DIY Blog, make your own bath salt. Simply add 10 drops of your favorite essential oil to one cup of Epsom salts. Store for later use, and sprinkle ¼ to ½ cup to your bath. Enjoy the quiet, the rejuvenating effect of the salts and oils, and come out renewed, ready to support those who rely on you.

Listening Campaign

One huge part of essential oils is the ability to heal our world. I love using essential oils to support my emotions. One incredibly important aspect of healing emotions is listening. Many kinds of listening are important: listening to our bodies, listening to our thoughts, and listening to each other. So, while this might not seem directly related to essential oils, I would like to take this moment to invite you to “Listen with Me”. I have a 90-day campaign of listening, where I am looking for a total of 30 people to experience being listened to. Are you one of the 30? Sign up here! This campaign will close on March 15!
