Frontier Group Purchases ArcelorMittal Property in Weirton

Over 1,100 acres of abandoned industrial property in Weirton may finally see new life. The Frontier Group, a Buffalo, New York-based corporation, which focuses on the cleanup and redevelopment of large industrial and commercial sites, announced the purchase of 1,100 acres of property in Weirton from ArcelorMittal Steel. Most of this property has been idle for several years.
The sale of this major brownfield in Weirton presents opportunities for new development in the Northern Panhandle town. Already, the Business Development Corporation of the Northern Panhandle has purchased a portion of the property and signed a 15-year lease agreement with the Bidell Company, which will use a former machine shop as its first US-based operation. The Bidell Company expects to create 60 jobs in the first year of operation alone, with an additional 120 in the years to follow.
