New 5 in 5!
We're back at it! Last month we released the first of our new series, 5 in 5, with Sue Alvarez, Assistant Director of the City of Dallas's Office of Environmental Quality & Sustainability. This month we're bringing you an exciting session with Eddy Trevino, Director of the Texas State Energy Conservation Office (SECO), moderated by SPEER's Executive Director, Todd McAlister.

5 in 5 is when we ask one expert five questions in five minutes (or a bit more!).
These short videos are intended to exhibit the excellent energy efficiency, sustainability, resilience, and policy work being done by SPEER's members and partners throughout Texas and Oklahoma.
New Blog Post: Benefits of Training Building Operators
Optimize Building Operators to Optimize Building Operation... say that 5 times fast! Did you know building owners can save 5-20% annually on their energy bills by implementing operations and maintenance (O&M) best practices? Well-developed O&M programs help ensure building's equipment is functioning as efficiently as possible and can identify performance issues before they become equipment failures. However, buildings can only be operated effectively if the building operator is properly trained. Dive in to step 9 of our recent "Actions Cities Can Take to Support Energy Efficiency in Texas" series.

As previously mentioned, we are now offering the Building Operator Certification (BOC) program in an online and live format, creating more opportunity and flexible from your home and office. To enroll in an upcoming course contact us!

CELC Webinar: Equity in Climate Planning

When: Thursday, July 23, 9-10 AM CST

Climate change impacts including displacement, poor air quality, and heat island effect, disproportionately impacts low-income families and communities of color. Low-income households spend on average 10% on energy costs compared to 2% for non-low-income (TEPRI). Equity and climate are inextricably linked.

Cities across Texas are developing and implementing climate action plans to tackle the mounting climate crisis. Join us to learn how equity shaped and guided climate plans and implementation strategies in Austin, Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio.

Speakers:
  • Phoebe Romero, City of Austin, Office of Sustainability
  • Pharr Andrews, City of Dallas, Office of Environmental Quality and Sustainability
