Hello CELC members,

This month, SPEER collaborated with Texas Parks and Wildlife and Texas Recreation & Park Society for a sustainability series with a specific audience, Park Administrators and Planners.  In 2019, the National Park Service (NPS) reported more than
327.5 million recreational visits, and then there was COVID.  Our national, state, and local parks stayed full even during limited capacity.  When you add the sustainability perspective to these unique campuses of campgrounds, parking lots, and historical buildings, this is an audience investing in energy efficiency infrastructure.  I enjoyed planting the seeds of energy efficiency and sustainability best practices with all the participants in the workshop.

Regarding the conference due to the increase of Delta COVID cases we have made the difficult decision to postpone our in-person conference until the spring. Follow us on social media or check our
event calendar for updates and information on the upcoming virtual panels and sessions we’ll be offering at the beginning of September in replacement of the conference.

In this newsletter, upcoming webinars, what we are listening to, and job opportunities.

All the best,

Shaun Auckland

Actions Cities Can Take to Support Energy Efficiency in Texas
As cities and states continue to lead the flight against climate change, we want to remind you that energy efficiency is often the lowest cost way to reduce a city's carbon footprint. The cheapest energy is the energy that is never used. Internal energy efficiency policies, climate action plans, and green building commitments help ensure cities are leading by example in efficiency and sustainability efforts. Webinar - Code Requirements for HVAC? We’ve Been Doing This for 39 Years...

Sometimes all you need to know is how they did it in the past to do it right today. When it comes to HVAC installation, nothing could be further from the truth. "That is the way I've always done it" is not a good reason to keep doing it that way. Better thermal envelopes, known infiltration and duct leakages, more sophisticated equipment and a variety of other factors make it more important that ever to install code compliant HVAC systems. Unfortunately, code compliant HVAC is the exception rather than the rule. Code Officials have to step up and demand properly designed and installed HVAC systems. Presenter Brett Dillon, CEO The Dillon Group

CELC Webinar: Green Schools—Creating A Healthy & Productive Environment for all Students

Post Occupancy Evaluations (POEs), including user satisfaction and resource use studies, were done in various Middle schools in Texas to understand how they perform after occupancy. The study goes into detailed data analysis to understand how decisions can affect resource use, operations costs, and comfort, health, and wellbeing of users. This research promotes POEs (relating these to the WELL Building Standard) to inform future designs, clients, and industry decisions.
