Complaining Jane & Shane

We all know that someone -friend or family member- that has a long list of answers when you ask the usual question "How are you doing?" usually focused only on the negative things.  Not that we don't want to hear what they have to say or what is going on in their lives, but when venting is the only thing that happens when you're in their company, true concern arises.

There is a difference between complaining and venting.  Complaining usually encompasses focus on creating a possible solution.  Venting entails whining and continued uncertainty about the problem at hand.   Complaining and venting can be draining in relationships for you and the other party involved. This is why therapy can be beneficial to those that find themselves in this position of venting about negative problems most of the time as well as the listening parties.

If you are the person that finds yourself complaining and venting majority of the time to your friends and family, consider the possibility of your own dissatisfaction, unhappiness, and even possible depression.   This is why the above statement in the picture above is
helpful information overall.  Your time is better used to seek out a therapist that might help you discern possible solutions to this issue at hand or even ask for additional aid from others that you know.

If you are the one that is a good listener to your friend or family member, it might be helpful for you to increase your awareness about how it affects you over time and even delegate others to aid in problem solving as needed.  Some of your best friends are ones that truly listen well and share some of their worst experiences over time with you.  This is not a bad thing at all. It is when every interaction you have with your friends or family members involve complaining and venting that leads to no resolution that negative aftereffects can occur.

Happy Thanksgiving

Take this time to be thankful for everything that you have this year and who you are appreciative for overall.
