As 2015 approaches, assessments of the world’s achievements on the MDGs and reviews of the financial contributions from different actors multiply. On the other hand, discussions on the post-2015 successor to the MDGs are growing seriously. CONCORD Conference on EU Development Aid to 2020

CSOs ask to prioritize & allocate 20% of DCI to health & basic education - See more at:
As the EU institutions are in the final stages of negotiations on the MFF for the 2014-2020 period, it is time to assess the extent to which the EU’s development commitments have been reflected into the decisions which were made for EU’s development budget and aid programmes up to 2020.

On 13 November 2013 from 13.30 to 17.30 in Brussels, CONCORD  is organizing a Conference enabling CSOs and EU institutions to discuss what the implications of the new MFF will be for EU development aid to 2020. This will also be an opportunity to discuss what still needs to be done and to remind relevant stakeholders of the necessity that the EU lives up to its strong commitments to eradicate poverty worldwide.

A capacity-building workshop (for CONCORD Members only!) will take place in the morning of the following day, 14 November. Please note that we can only welcome one person per member organization and highly encourage participants to multiply afterwards with your own members and country offices.

CIDSE Secretary General Bernd Nilles said, “We have seen too many cases over recent years where business activities have led to violations of labour rights or rights to land, liveli-hood, health and a clean environment. New CIDSE Publication Launched: Agribusiness and Human Rights: Briefing for Social Movements

Investment in agriculture is urgently needed. Agriculture is the main source of livelihood for people living in hunger in developing countries, 50% of whom are smallholder producers, a further 25% are workers in the food industry, and others include indigenous and forest dwellers. The importance of this sector to hunger reduction and poverty alleviation should not be underestimated. The kind of investment needed, however, is an issue which is currently at the heart of many international policy debates on food security and nutrition.
