News from Point Nine Capital – September 2019
Hi <<First Name>>,

We’ll start this month’s edition of your favorite newsletter with a quiz question:

Which of these three scenes actually happened?

A: The POTUS showed a fake hurricane map on live television.
B: A British MP took a well-deserved nap.
C: A bear in our office fed bananas to our latest new teammate.
The correct answer is, of course: All of them, because you can’t make this 💩up. We’ll tell you more about the latest addition to our team soon, but now, let’s talk about …

NEW INVESTMENTS!

While POTUS has been working on his alternate reality, we’ve found a company that is providing accurate and transparent crypto data, bringing the market closer to the real reality. Kaiko gives you access to high quality, real-time data on over 10,000 cryptocurrency pairs across over 80 exchanges. Bloomberg for crypto, how cool is that! 💸

Apparently the Danes don’t want to sell Greenland to the US. So instead of retiring and living off the proceeds of that export, it looks like they have to keep doing what they’re good at: Designing furniture Developing software. A great example of beautiful software made in Denmark is Pento, the latest addition to the #p9family. Pento has developed a remarkably beautiful and convenient payroll automation solution. Who would have thought that you’ll ever hear the words “beautiful” and “payroll” in one sentence?

#P9FAMILY NEWS
  • We couldn’t be more proud of our friends at Clio who raised an unreal a HUGE $250 million Series D round from TCV and JMI Equity to continue building the operating system for lawyers. 🎉Believe it or not, this was Christoph's and Pawel’s first investment together. They’ve now been investors in Clio for almost 25% of their lives, time flies!
  • Calling all parents: Brainly just raised $30m in funding to help school kids with their biggest problem, homework! As my grandma always said: Study, study, study, you don't want to end up as a VC! 👭🧠
  • Lemoncat was recently acquired by Rocket Internet founded Caterwings in a move to consolidate the B2B food delivery market. • Whilst Ricardo got a couple of bananas and some serious grilling during his interview process, our portfolio company, Loom, went one step further and created 200 personalized videos to hire one teammate. Find out more about their awesome hiring process here.🤯
  • Revolut also went on a hiring spree and brought on three new senior hires from Goldman and Credit Suisse as part of its mission to take on traditional financial institutions and to build a global bank. Sounded unreal a few years ago, but again, time flies.
  • Meanwhile, Laserhub was also busy expanding and just opened its third market (aside from Germany and Austria). Bonjour France! 👋
