News from Point Nine Capital – December 2019

Hi <<First Name>>,

The year in which European venture capital became officially crazy (pre-seed rounds at Series B valuations, anyone?) is coming to a close, and that can only mean one thing: It’s time for the December issue of your favorite VC newsletter, brought to you by Point Nine’s stable geniuses.

We’re not sure if the TAM for “Our year in review”-style posts is significantly above 13 (our moms), so let’s spare you that and get right to the news.

Here’s a little quiz. Which word do you have to put in for the placeholders below in order for these sentences to make sense? Tip: It’s the same word for all placeholders, and the right answer will get you a pair of Airpod Pros the name of our latest investment. 🧠🤔

We’re super excited about the launch of ⬜⬜⬜⬜ which we've ⬜⬜⬜⬜ed from Day 1. ⬜⬜⬜⬜ is a bit like Zendesk or Front, but for the ⬜⬜⬜⬜-office. If your internal service teams are drowning in requests, ⬜⬜⬜⬜'s got your ⬜⬜⬜⬜and lets you go ⬜⬜⬜⬜ to work!

✈️ Cargo One announced its newest partnership. Nippon Cargo Airlines is the first Asian carrier to join Cargo One’s air freight booking platform. Prediction: In 10 years people will think it was crazy that their parents didn’t have an online platform for cargo booking.

🚢 What's even crazier? Polluting the planet by shipping around empty sea containers across the world. Read how Hamburg-based container logistics platform xChange makes transportation greener by helping the industry avoid empty transports (or check out this short video to learn more about how it works).

🤘 If you think Boron, Molybdenum, Niobium, Tungsten and Vanadium are the new crazy characters in Game of Thrones you’re not alone. But far from it, each of them (as well as Pig Iron, in case you wondered) is a metal that you can buy and sell on Metalshub. Read more about Metalshub’s plan to transform the crazy large industry of metal trading in this interview on Deutsche Startups (German).

🛡️ riskmethods already helps customers monitor over 300,000 sites and hubs, protecting a crazy $1 trillion in revenue. Now our favorite riskbusters are taking it to the next level and have recruited Patrik Heider, a crazily experienced software executive, as CEO.

🎥 Loom has raised a $30 million Series B from Sequoia. Not too shabby. Here’s what Instagram co-founder Mike Krieger, who joined the round as an angel investor, had to say:

🛸 LIFT, creator of the world’s first personal flying experience for everyone, has started to take reservations for its 25-city tour next year. What that means is that soon, normal people like you and we will be able to fly. Good that this newsletter’s theme is “crazy”.

❤️ Last but definitely not least crazy, 15Five ranks #3 in Glassdoor’s “2020 Best Places to Work” awards. This came after the company has received Inc.’s 2019 Best Work-Places, San Francisco’s Best & Brightest, and the 2019 Best Places to Work in the Bay Area award. ICYMI, 15Five is a very good place to work.

In partnership with Angular Ventures, we’re co-hosting a small breakfast with enterprise SaaS founders who are dealing with enterprise sales challenges. January 10, Berlin. Very few spots available, but let us know if you’re interested in joining!

We wish you and your loved ones Happy Holidays, a great start into the New Year, and a happy, healthy and prosperous 2020. See you on the other side!

Your team at Point Nine

PS: If you’re still mulling over the name of our new portfolio company, here’s a tip. It’s the opposite of an existing #p9family member, Front.
