We have had a busy spring so far and are looking forward to a fantastic summer! We will be launching our Volunteer Programme for the rest of 2019 soon, and have lots of ways for you to get involved in the project. The Pendle Radicals project have lots coming up including sessions focusing on Lancashire dialect and InSitu are advertising for a new artist in residence for our Community Archaeology project. Remember to keep an eye on our website and social media pages to follow what we've been up to!
Introduction to Volunteering with the Pendle Hill Landscape Partnership
To celebrate Volunteers' Week we will be hosting an Introduction session at Spring Wood on Wednesday 5th June for anyone who may be interested in volunteering with the project. Come along to meet some of the team, find out more about what the volunteers get involved in, take home our new Volunteer Programme and have a go at a small practical task in Spring Wood. Drop in between 6pm and 8pm. For anyone interested in becoming an Family Learning volunteer, get in touch and come along to a session on Saturday 1st June.

Little Saplings and Free Family Nature Events
Our outdoor learning opportunities include Little Saplings sessions, which is woodland play for under 5s at Spring Wood, Whalley and Victoria Park in Nelson. In the school holidays we also have different Free Family Nature Events suitable for children age 5 - 12. Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all of the sessions!

We have a special Saturday Little Saplings event on 1st June! And lots of family friendly events planned for the summer holidays. Please note that all these events are booking essential - take a look at our What's On guide for more information.

Pendle Hill Mobile Hut
Following a commission by InSitu to build the Pendle Hill Mobile Hut, Nick Wood has been out and about the LP area over the past few months, researching ideas and taking inspiration from the landscape. The Mobile Hut is now complete and was the star feature at The Gathering event on Saturday 25th May. The hut will start to be used soon - so look out for it around the hill!
The mobile hut is now finished and will be used in a variety of different ways across the projects.

Level 1 Dry Stone Walling Course
Learn a heritage skills and gain a Dry Stone Walling Lantra Accredited Qualification with guidance from a Dry Stone Walling Association Master Craftsman. This training is funded through the Traditional Boundaries project - so all you need to pay is the test fee! Previous walling experience not essential, but you must be able to commit to all 10 training days in July and August and the test date. Why not try something new?

Potential Trainees and Employers Wanted!
We are currently looking for both employers and young people in the Pendle Hill area who would like to offer or take up apprenticeships. Through our Heritage Fund grant we are able to pay up to 50% of employment costs for young people to work and receive training in skills related to the landscape partnership scheme - that can include conservation farming; ground works and rural skills contractors; heritage building restoration; archaeological and heritage research and advice; sustainable tourism; arts development and outdoor activities for example.

About the Pendle Hill Landscape Partnership
The Pendle Hill Landscape Partnership is a four year programme of activities and events based around the heritage and landscape of Pendle Hill, led by the Forest of Bowland AONB and supported by the National Lottery Heritage Lottery Fund. The scheme has five aims:
  • We will restore, enhance and conserve the heritage and landscape of Pendle Hill
  • We will re-connect people with the landscape
  • We will re-connect people and the past
  • We will bring together two sides of the hill
  • We will create a sustainable future for the environment, heritage and for visitor's experience of Pendle Hill.
