Muriel Omand-Naylor (Zonta Club of KW), Caitlyn McComb (Anishnabeg Outreach) and Brenda Graham (Zonta Club of KW)
Hello from the D4 Service Committee. Our members are Judy Powers, Kathie Nichter and Brenda Graham, Chair, and we are here to help and guide you on questions about Service projects during this biennium. It's an unusual time with the pandemic, and might make us think outside the box for project ideas that fit with the covid protocols. First, we know that our district encompasses both US and Canadian clubs, and acknowledge the covid protocols are different in the two countries, so one area may have more flexibility than the other at times.
We have confirmed in both the US and Canada that the Birthing Kit shipping locations are accepting our kits and shipping them, as there is a great need with the pandemic. The Zonta Club of Kitchener Waterloo is holding a Birthing Kit assembly, covid style on October 24th. All processes will be completed ahead of the assembly by individual members at home, using covid protocols...masks and gloves. Then they will be assembled by 10 members, working at individual tables, six feet apart. If you would like information about completing Birthing Kits in general, or special accomadations during covid, please email Brenda Graham and Judy Powers at service @zontadistrict4.org.
Several clubs have sewn masks for local groups. The Zonta Club of KW has had two mask projects. One for the Anishnabeg Outreach Resource Centre to go out in spirit bundles for individuals who needed support and a second for their local YWCA Centre. If your club is interested and would like more information, please email Brenda Graham at service@zontadistrict4.org. Additional projects that are being completed in the district involve donations of hygiene kits to sexual assault centres, domestic violence centres and rape centres at hospitals, donating pajamas and sanitary products for women's centres and donating bras for Free The Girls. We will be updating the D4 website under service with more information.
As always, we encourage you to promote your projects thru social media, on your website, thru D4 News and by sharing pictures and ideas with other clubs. We are always looking for new ideas, let us know!
