Invitations galore!

Exciting things have been happening here at Stonewood. We have a brilliant debut short story collection out in February, we're part of the Only Way is Indie festival, we're sponsoring the Stonewood Regional Prize in the 2nd Aurora Writing Competition, and I've bought a boat!

And we're inviting you to as many things as we can! Scroll down and find out what they are...

Stunning debut chapbook
When You Lived Inside The Walls and Other Stories by Krishan Coupland

We're delighted to invite you to the launch of Krishan's first collection of short stories When You Lived Inside The Walls and Other Stories on Thursday 9th February at 7pm at The Sir Garnet, 36 Market Place, Norwich NR2 1RD.

Krishan is the winner of the Manchester Fiction Prize (2011) and the Bare Fiction Prize (2016). When You Lived... is at once dark and tender, mundane and extraordinary. The stories here speak of strange realities where a child takes to living in the walls with the friends who love her, a young man preserves the body of his beloved, who has returned from the dead, in a freezer in his garage, and sharing a daily cup of tea with a neighbour isn't as simple as it seems.

This is a joint launch with the brilliant Neon Magazine (edited by Krishan) and promises to be a great night of readings, wine, rats, games, a raffle, and the opportunity to buy copies of the both When You Lived... and Neon.

The event is free to attend, but please do book a ticket so that we have an idea of numbers.

The Only Way is Indie

We're thrilled to be a part of the 2nd independent publishing festival, The Only Way is Indie. It takes place in Nottingham on 12th February at Nottingham Writers' Studio from 10:30am - 6:30pm.

Stonewood has a poetry focus at the festival and will be on the panel 'Getting About in the Poetry World' at 2.30pm.

Brittle Star will also be present at the festival on the panel 'Submitting Poetry & Prose to Literary Magazines and Writing Competitions', which starts at 1pm.

This is a day of independent publishing activity so come along for the chance to meet editors and publishers from across the country - all for the modest sum of £30 or £22 concs. And if you're a Nottingham Writers' Studio member the ticket price is £26.

To book your ticket visit

The Narrowboat to the Deep North

Because life isn't quite so busy with a full time business and the labours of love for editing Brittle Star magazine and publishing Stonewood Press, at the end of last year Jacqueline and I bought a project narrowboat to fix up and eventually live on. Come along and find out how we're getting on (and read a few haiku along the way) on our new YouTube channel The Narrowboat to the Deep North on

Stonewood is proud to be sponsoring the Stonewood Press Regional Prize for the second Writing East Midlands Aurora Poetry and Short Fiction Competition.

Last year's Stonewood Prize winners were two wonderful writers, Richard Goodson and Amy McCormack, and we were delighted to meet them at the prize giving at Bromley House Library last April.

The regional prize is £70 per category plus a Stonewood goodie bag and a voucher from the brilliant Writing School East Midlands to attend one of its courses.

This year's judges are Penelope Shuttle for poetry and Jacob Ross for short stories and the main prize is worth £500. If you'd like to know more about Aurora, what the other prizes are and how to enter, visit Writing East Midlands' website at
