Greetings,
As we inch loser to spring in the northern hemisphere and closer to fall in the southern hemisphere, we'd like to share some of our resources and upcoming events with our friends, clients and followers.
The Wall Street Journal's Risk & Compliance Journal picked up our announcement two weeks ago of Jacqueline E. Brevard's joining GEC Risk Advisory as Senior Advisor (http://on.wsj.com/1fDqvFz). Also last week, we were featured in the lead WSJ Risk & Compliance Morning Report article "Mammas Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up to be Chief Compliance Officers" on the subject of the quick turnover that appears to be taking place in the chief compliance officer world (see featured story in this newsletter).
Some additional resources you might find interesting are the latest two GlobalEthicist columns and an interview with the I-Sight Blog on supply chain governance:
- This month's GlobalEthicist Column for Ethical Corporation Magazine "Do Banks Care About Reputation Risk?"
- Last month's GlobalEthicist Column on "The Biggest Risks Nobody Talks About: Leadership and Culture Failure"
- "Four Steps to Controlling Supply Chain Risk" an interview by I-SIght Blog with Andrea Bonime-Blanc
We are looking forward to conducting two exciting workshops in early April: one on "Ethical Risk and Risk Culture" for the Toronto-based, Global Risk Institute in Financial Services, for a group of chief risk officers from a diversity of financial institutions, and the other on "Ethics & Culture" for Chief Audit Executives at the Spring IIA meeting in Philadelphia.
As always, we look forward to connecting with you soon!
Cheers,
Andrea

Do Banks Care About
Reputation Risk?
Latest GlobalEthicist Column from Ethical Corporation Magazine
In the latest The GlobalEthicist column, we tackle a tough issue with an unclear answer: after almost six years since the global financial crisis imploded all over the world with devastating consequences on many stakeholders but not so much on the financial industry and its executives, we ask the question: does reputation risk matter or factor into a bank's business strategy? If you're too big to fail, are you too big to care about reputation? Check it out hot off the virtual presses this morning here: http://bit.ly/1gR0E9y

"Mammas Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up to be Chief Compliance Officers"
The Wall Street Journal
Risk & Compliance Morning Report - February 28, 2014
Andrea Bonime-Blanc was interviewed for this WSJ feature on the frequent turnover of chief compliance officers especially in the financial sector. Among her observations were that:
“There is higher pressure now to implement broader and deeper compliance programs because of all the fines and deferred prosecution agreements,” she said...“Some CCOs only last a short while because they either discover that they cannot get, or will not be given, the necessary tools and support to do the job properly or they are scapegoated,” http://on.wsj.com/OH4hHI

The Conference Board
Global Strategic and Enterprise Risk Management Conference
New York City June 4-5, 2014
Risk management has become an essential part of corporate management, strategy, and leadership over the past few years, and risk executives are increasingly required to work across a broad range of issues. Risk leaders also need to coach and train their staff in the detection and management of emerging risks. If properly structured and integrated with strategy, active risk management can provide a competitive advantage in all sectors, providing critical protection to corporate reputation and brand, as well as enabling strategic growth over time. This conference offers an up-to-date overview of the critical global and strategic risks confronting multinational organizations. http://www.conference-board.org/conferences/conferencedetail.cfm?conferenceid=2657
