On these final days of October 2018, I write with concern, in the midst of a crisis of democracy and a week of unprecedented threatened and actual violence in America. We are one week from what many in the U.S. (and elsewhere) are calling the most important election in the US of our lifetimes. I agree. Democracy is at risk in America (as it is in some other parts of the world) and geopolitical risk is also at a level tide globally as many forms of international governance that have helped keep the world relatively calm for decades are now at risk.
Overlay on these developments, failure of constructive leadership and culture on several levels as well as the amplification and "viralization" of everything via social media and we find ourselves at a time of deep, complex and interconnected global risk. It behooves all of us - no matter what we do or who we are - to do our part - no matter how small - to reintroduce civility, thoughtfulness and care into all aspects of life.
