About the Presentation:
iXBlue has been instrumental in the development of Fiber Optic Gyroscopes (FOG) since the early 1970s, with one of their founding fathers responsible for the highly accurate and reliable gyroscope's development and early production. Making no noise and having no moving parts, FOGs operate by light passing through three coils of finely wound optical fiber in opposite directions and then measuring the wave length phase shift caused by motion in the same direction as the light is moving. Carl Carlson, Sales and Business Development Manager at iXBlue's Natick, MA offices will review the history of the development of modern gyroscopes and where and how they are used today. Example videos will feature modern gyroscopes at recent America's Cup races, high latitude operations in the arctic and stabilized gangways for boarding oil platforms in high seas as well as FOG-based inertial navigation systems (INS) in use in autonomous underwater vehicles, submarines and various ships worldwide.

About the Speaker:

Carl Carlson is the Sales and Business Development Manager for iXBlue's North American office with a focus on naval defense business development in North America.
Prior to joining iXBlue, Carl worked at Qinetiq and Raytheon IDS as a Senior Principal Systems Engineer, Program Manager and Business Development and Capture Manager. Carl also spent 28 years in the US Navy serving as a surface warfare officer in Cruisers and Destroyers. Carl received his Systems Engineering BS from the United States Naval Academy, MS from the Naval Postgraduate School and his Doctorate from George Washington University.

True to all of our United4Defense events, we will have a networking hour and will welcome a small discussion after the presentation. At this month's event we will have a make your own burger bar!
