New Grant Support for HCC

In March 2017, Hmong Cultural Center was awarded a 2 year grant from the McKnight Foundation to support its Hmong Wedding and Funeral Song Instruction program. 

In December 2016, Hmong Cultural Center was awarded a grant from the City of Saint Paul Cultural Star program to support an interactive Hmong Folk Arts exhibit. 

In December 2016, Hmong Cultural Center was awarded a grant from the Saint Paul Foundation Asian Pacific Endowment to support an interactive Hmong Folk Arts exhibit. 

In November 2016, Hmong Cultural Center was awarded a Southeast Asian Equity grant from the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) to support Occupational English classes. 

In November 2016, Hmong Cultural Center was awarded a grant from the Otto Bremer Foundation to support Citizenship class outreach and Adult Basic Education programming.  

The center thanks all of these funders for their important support of the community we serve! 

HCC Testifies at Legislature 

On March 20, 2017, Hmong Cultural Center testified at the Minnesota State Senate Environment and Natural Resources and Legacy Policy Committee for SF 1797. SF 1797 introduced by Minnesota State Senator Sandy Pappas would support the development of a comprehensive interactive exhibit related to Hmong Folk Arts including Hmong musical instruments, Hmong Wedding and Funeral Songs and Hmong Embroidery at the Hmong Cultural Center in St. Paul. On March 13, 2017, Hmong Cultural Center's leadership testified for HF 1898 at the Minnesota House Legacy Funding Finance Committee. HF 1898, the companion bill to SF 1797 and authored by Rep. Rena Moran would also support the development of a unique interactive Hmong Folk Arts exhibit at Hmong Cultural Center. HCC's testimony at the House hearing may be viewed here:

Hmong 101 Class Online

The new Hmong 101 online on-demand Course from Hmong Cultural Center teaches the center's Hmong 101 curriculum through a video lecture, powerpoint and quizzes.

Topics covered in the Hmong 101 class include: The Hmong Population Around the World, Hmong History, Hmong Role in the CIA's Secret War in Laos, The Hmong Refugee Movement to the U.S. 1975-2008, Hmong American Population and Demographics, Hmong American Educational Status, Hmong American Socioeconomic Status, Diversity in the Hmong Community, Hmong Clans and their Functions, Traditional Hmong Religion and Shamanism, The Hmong Language and Cultural Etiquette and Communication Strategies for Service Providers who work with Hmong Populations.
