"Memories: the latest series.

I finally cleaned my studio for our open house on March 6th, and now I don't want to work for a while.

I had been driven to work for months. Almost as soon as I finished the Women Who Changed the World, I wanted to make a series without much color; more monochromatic. I have a box of very old photos that I saved from  from my parents' attic after my mother died. It is filled with memories of my childhood and images of others before I was born. I had a vision of making faintly painted figures, covered in encaustic. As I began, that vision faded and another one took its place. I gave this direction deep thought and came to the conclusion that because I am who I am, it is very difficult not to show expression and features. I love faces and just couldn't wipe them out. I did use some oil glazes and transfers on top of the encaustic.
I completed 10 paintings in the series, Memories. There is another one resting in the stacks until I have the energy to finish it. Now I will take time to catch up with the other side of making art...communication and sharing the work, and taking a short vacation; getting out of town and away from the studio.
I posted this new series on my website where you can see all of the paintings in Women Who Changed the World and Memories. I hope you will be able to take a mental journey back in time with Memories and appreciate the power and talent of just some of the women who changed the world.http://www.ezshwan.com
I wish you all a lovely Spring and a life filled with the joys of art.
