Summer's almost here!

We have been so busy lately, heading into the summer season, getting ready to wrap up the afterschool program and Mindful Moment program until school starts back up in the fall.

May was full of, you guessed it, yoga, mindfulness, meditation - and traveling! Andy went down to Colombia for a wedding (and got a chance to do some yoga!). We also had Dan Siegel join us for a talk on Neuroplasticity and Mindfulness. What an honor to meet him and share his work. We hope you got to enjoy some of his wisdom, too!

Our boy Jamar, one of the first kids to take part in our afterschool program, also won the National Lacrosse Championship with his team, the saints. Click on the image below to check out an article from Lacross Magazine about their win.

Interested in volunteering with HLF?

We are looking for an administrative intern who can help us out answering emails, responding to inquiries, and managing our trainings and events. If this sounds like you, or if you know someone who would be a great fit for this role, please let us know by responding to this email.

We're also looking for a grant writer, so if you know someone who wants to do non-profit grant writing and enjoys yoga & mindfulness, please have them email us at info@hlfinc.org.

You can also check out one-time and continuing volunteer opportunities on the Holistic Life Foundation website here.

We're on a mission to reach 5,000 people with our newsletter by the end of this year. Help us by forwarding this email to a friend, making an introduction, or sharing our Facebook page. We are so, so grateful for your support!

Peace,
Andy, Atman & Ali

Join HLF in Action: Urban Youth Yoga & Mindfulness

We're teaching at the Omega Institute again, July 20-25th! Last summer was so much fun, and we had a great turn out. Here's what one participant had to say after the program: "I started teaching 2 weeks ago to a group of teens in a residential school. After the class, the kids said they felt relaxed, among other positive feelings."

Here's the official class description:

The Holistic Life Foundation has more than a decade of experience teaching yoga and mindfulness to youth classified as “high-risk” or “hard-to-reach” in urban environments, and has developed a unique blend of yoga, mindfulness, tai chi, and other self-healing arts.

Now the founders of the Holistic Life Foundation—Ali Smith, Atman Smith, and Andres Gonzalez, along with guest teacher Sharon Salzberg—offer this workshop to show you how to teach yoga and mindfulness to high-risk and hard-to-reach urban youth. Gain a deeper understanding of the needs of high-risk and urban youth and learn new yoga and mindfulness skills to help fulfill these needs.

Through a combination of practice, lectures, panel discussions, and exercises, you learn asanas, pranayama, centering exercises, mindfulness practices, and meditations. You also learn youth engagement principles, teaching philosophies, and strategies for working with “problem” students, while exploring methods to make the whole approach practical and, most of all, fun.

This is an exceptional opportunity for anyone at any skill level in yoga and mindfulness interested in teaching these techniques to urban youth, including teachers, yoga instructors, and helping professionals who wish to use the techniques in their practices.
