Happy July!

In just a few days, we'll be teaching again at the Omega Institute, followed by a weekend at the Mindfulness in Schools conference (also being held at Omega). Excited to be at this beautiful place and supporting those who want to bring yoga & mindfulness into their community!

We're really excited about this article that was just published about the Holistic Life Foundation by citybizlist. Check it out and share it here:

We also just finished up our after-school program (Holistic Me), which completes its 12th year of service. This past year, we have increased our total number of participants to over 60 youth (Pre-K to 5th grade). Annual events, such as the Christmas Party, Vernal Pool Hike, Bounce House Party, and Family Hershey Park trip, went off without a hitch.  Participants also took part in new enrichment activities beyond the usual arts, crafts, and recreational activities; such as Meditative Juggling, Beat Making, and learning how to "Be Like Water". The children continue to grow as yogis by facilitating the classes every day, and, this year, they actually got to take their talents down to Charlottesville, VA where they led over 300 kids in yoga practices! The program always has a wide variety of visitors, and we were blessed to have Dan Siegel stop by to join them in a yoga class - he even played a game of kickball! Holistic Me continues to be a beacon of light in the Greater Southern Mondawmin area by bringing together the families and children in the community.

A big thanks to everyone for supporting this project and the work that we do in Baltimore, the US, and all over the world. We couldn't do it without you!

Interested in volunteering with HLF?

We are looking for an administrative intern who can help us out answering emails, responding to inquiries, and managing our trainings and events. If this sounds like you, or if you know someone who would be a great fit for this role, please let us know by responding to this email.

We're also looking for a grant writer, so if you know someone who wants to do non-profit grant writing and enjoys yoga & mindfulness, please have them email us at info@hlfinc.org.

You can also check out one-time and continuing volunteer opportunities on the Holistic Life Foundation website here.

Save the Date:  HLF Annual Fundraiser

On September 13th, we'll be hosting our annual fundraiser at our offices at 1407 Fleet Street, Baltimore, MD. Mark your calendar - we'll be sending out more details next month & on Facebook!

The Holistic Life Foundation has more than a decade of experience teaching yoga and mindfulness to youth classified as “high-risk” or “hard-to-reach” in urban environments, and has developed a unique blend of yoga, mindfulness, tai chi, and other self-healing arts.

Now the founders of the Holistic Life Foundation—Ali Smith, Atman Smith, and Andres Gonzalez, along with guest teacher Sharon Salzberg—offer this workshop to show you how to teach yoga and mindfulness to high-risk and hard-to-reach urban youth. Gain a deeper understanding of the needs of high-risk and urban youth and learn new yoga and mindfulness skills to help fulfill these needs.

Through a combination of practice, lectures, panel discussions, and exercises, you learn asanas, pranayama, centering exercises, mindfulness practices, and meditations. You also learn youth engagement principles, teaching philosophies, and strategies for working with “problem” students, while exploring methods to make the whole approach practical and, most of all, fun.

This is an exceptional opportunity for anyone at any skill level in yoga and mindfulness interested in teaching these techniques to urban youth, including teachers, yoga instructors, and helping professionals who wish to use the techniques in their practices.
