Planting Season is Here!
It's hard to imagine but Tahoe's mountains have already had their first dusting of snow. Fall is a great time to plant sugar pine seedlings. Before we cuddle up for winter, we will be planting over 4000 sugar pine seedlings, progeny of blister rust resistant parent trees.

Help us by volunteering for one of our Community Plantings this fall! Below are the weekend opportunities, but you are also welcome at one of our many group plantings during the week.

Sun, Oct 15, 11-1pm - Truckee River
Day planting at Waddle Ranch, please register here
Sat, Oct 21, 10-noon - SOS kids and Southwest Gas employee planting in Tahoe Vista

Sat, Oct 28 10-1pm -  Community planting in the Little Valley Burn Scar in Reno
Sun, Oct 29, 10-noon - Tahoe City Rotary planting at Granlibakken
Sat, Nov 5, 10-noon - Tahoe Douglas Rotary planting at Glenbrook with a special guest talk from the Tahoe Institute of Natural Science

You can also buy a seedling to plant in your own yard for $10 each.

Cone Collections
We had a successful season of cone collections. We climbed 12 sugar pines and 1 western white pines to collect about 20 pounds of seed. Half of the seed goes to the US Forest Service for reforestation and half to us. We also collected cones from 13 new western white pines candidate trees for blister rust resistance testing.
Thank you to our climbers and crew - Hugh Denno, Tim Koch, Keith Tom, Teri Banka, Kyle Lynch, Rob and Shaina, Gavin Back and Meghan Wolf.
