Hands-on Kimchi Workshop
Kimchi is an ancient Korean pickle (usually spicy) and there are hundreds of ways to make it! In this workshop, hosted by Austin Durant of Fermenters Club, we will explore some of them and send you home with some delicious treats!
- Saturday, October 23, 2021 from 11:00am to 1:30pm
- Indoor/Outdoor garden venue
- Includes your own take-home mason jar of kimchi!
- LEARN: We’ll explain fermentation and have a brief discussion about the benefits of making and eating fermenting foods, and the history and different styles of kimchi
- DEMO: We’ll show you how easy it is to start making fermented foods yourself at home! We’ll demo some simple seasonal fermented recipes which are loaded with healthy “probiotic” bacteria.
- TASTE: We’ll have a variety of fermented kimchi styles to sample
- DO IT YOURSELF: Roll up your sleeves and make your very own batch of spicy kimchi to take home and ferment
- $45/person with discounts when you bring a friend (or a posse!)\
- We will also be sippin’ on some locally crafted high-alcohol kombucha. You must be 21 years old or more to enjoy the high abv flavors.

Summer Camp
Wrap-Up
We were so fortunate to host the inaugural Emerald Village Summer Camp this past summer, and had such an amazing time with all of our participants.
We welcomed adults and children from all over Southern California to come and experience our community, immersed in nature and building survival skills. Jeremiah Scott joined us as a camp counselor from Grass Valley, bringing his expertise in primitive skills and roleplaying.
From water slides and rope swings to medicinal herb harvesting and box forts, the camp was a blast for all involved. Many of the children really enjoyed the archery and axe throwing, while others loved the hike to the waterfall and pond or the games like fox walking and water balloon fight. Thanks to everyone in the community for supporting us, and for all of our wonderful participants. We look forward to even more fun next summer!
