December 2021

We hope everyone had a wonderful long weekend and enjoyed the holiday fun!

As you may remember from our last newsletter, we were excited about hosting our first Tulsa Responds community event. We partnered with the Hicks Park Community Center as well as a variety of other community organizations to provide families with easy access to important health services.

We had over 200 attendees, including over 60 families. At the event, uninsured households were able to enroll in Medicaid, the ACA Marketplace, or Medicare. Hunger Free Oklahoma was on hand to help enroll households experiencing food insecurity in SNAP benefits. Attendees were able to learn about many other services and vendors such as doulas, charter schools, job trainings, and the public library. Even Channel 26 showed up to cover the event for the evening news!

Each household in attendance received a bag of non-perishable groceries from La Cosecha, and many households won a free Thanksgiving turkey or a prize from one of our generous donors, Oasis Fresh Market, Reasor's, QuikTrip, and FC Tulsa.

We are grateful to each partner organization and the Hicks Park Community Center for facilitating such a successful event. We were reminded how lucky we are to live and work in a city with such a big heart!
Every month this space will be used to promote any of our upcoming events or services, along with events/services YOU would like our community partners to know about. Fill out the Partner Form at the bottom of the newsletter to be included in the January newsletter.

It's not too early to be thinking about taxes! Please help your communities make a plan to file their taxes and let them know there's a high-quality option that's free for certain households, thanks to Goodwill VITA and Tulsa Responds!

Goodwill’s VITA program provides free income tax preparation for low and moderate-income households. We expect the income limit to be $58,000 for 2021. IRS-certified preparers will prepare, review and efile both state and federal tax returns. Some types of income and depreciation are out of scope for this service. Both in-person and virtual services will be available, and for the first time in the program's existence, filers will be able to make appointments rather than first come, first served.

If your organization would like to work with us to set up appointments with your staff or community members or to share more information about the program, please email

Check or for more information in early 2022.
