Artists on the Move

or some catchy title where we say cool news about our members.

Other ideas for the title:  Fresh Views, Art Grows in Buffalo, please offer some ideas.
This is old news - we'd have to find something new.

A photo taken on Main Street in Buffalo across from Canisius College has made its way into a boxed set of greeting cards being sold at 804 Target stores across the country. The photo, which features ice-covered trees lining a snowy path, was taken by Ann Peterson, a local photographer and owner of greeting card company Mundo Images.  She was exhibiting the photo at the 2010 New York Gift Show in Manhattan’s Jacob Javits Convention Center when it caught the eye of a national distributor.  “I had mixed reactions at first because I try to do everything locally and have control over my materials,” Peterson said.

The image is already featured in a Mundo Images set of 10 Christmas cards, which retails for $16. Target changed the card’s layout and added glitter, and included it in a set of 40 cards which retails for $15.  Peterson will receive a 3 percent royalty of all sales until 2014.  Peterson exhibits her work in Allentown at her Mundo Images Gallery at 500 Franklin St.

Did you Know?

QR Code (abbreviated from Quick Response Code) is a 2 dimensional barcodes that is easily scanned using any modern mobile phone. This code will then be converted into a piece of text and/or web link. For instance, you walk around in the city and notice a poster for an event that seems interesting. You take out your mobile phone, scan the QR Code and will instantly get more information and a link to a website where you can book your tickets.
You will need to download a QR Code reader app onto your smart phone.
Our QR code will allow you to sign up for this e-newsletter.

I will also make a QR code for the map part of the mailer, that we can put on postcards or e-mail artists to print on whatever they want/if they want, once the map is done.

In November, talk about Square and other smart phone ways of accepting credit cards that customers will be seeing as they attend our show.
