Winter 2020
One of our favourite routines for January is reflecting on the past year and all that we’re grateful for. Gratitude can improve mental health substantially, and we’re fortunate at CDI to have so much to be thankful for! In our quest to improve the well-being of children, youth and their families, none of this would be possible without your phenomenal support.
Spotlight on our supporters

Troop connects community volunteers to CDI

This year has only deepened our gratitude for Troop and their volunteers. Troop is a tech company on a mission to change the way people interact with philanthropy. “Imagine if it was just as easy to help a neighbour as it is to order food to your front door?” says Kelly Emery, Troop’s founder. “I want to use technology to help people with busy lives discover needs in their local community - so it’s easy to do good!”

Troop finds charities like CDI in the local community to support and connect volunteers to. In 2019, Troop supported CDI in a variety of projects, from toy and art supply donations for our Camp Wimodausis, to holiday gifts for the women and children in CDI’s Mothers In Mind program. Troop volunteers help CDI with smiles on their faces, something we don’t take for granted.

New year, same gratitude for January Baby

Anna Redish, owner of January Baby, has continued her support of CDI by donating Smittens for children and families in our programs. Thank you, Anna!

RBC Assist-a-Family Program

We are grateful to RBC for its continued support of CDI families through the annual ‘Assist-a-Family’ program. In the past 10 years, RBC employees have banded together to provide for 329 CDI families, generating over $650,000 in gifts and gift cards. This initiative comes directly from the RBC team members, spearheaded by Serena Orlow, Manager, Communications Infrastructure Management. “I’m a firm believer in community and social impact,” says Serena.

For her and her team at RBC, giving back to children, youth and families across the city helps them to feel connected and part of something meaningful. “If I can help put a smile on a child’s face during the holidays from our donations, it makes it all worthwhile.”

Programs like this can make a huge difference in the lives of families, many of whom are newcomers to Canada. This year, RBC assisted 71 CDI families, alleviating many of the pressures that surround the holiday season.

Thank you, RBC!
#FacingOurFeelings
Feelings can be overwhelming, especially for children and youth. Starting in February, CDI is debuting Facing Our Feelings, a series of videos that encourage self-expression and healthy discussions on children’s mental health.

Be sure to follow the journeys of Robert, Ezekiel, Kaden, Kathryn, Mackenzie and Ember on our social media channels, and join the conversation by using the hashtag #FacingOurFeelings.

Stay tuned – these videos will be launching on our Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and YouTube, with different videos releasing each week!
